Job Description Summary

The SVP of Personal Line Sales and Distribution plays a crucial role in developing and executing Nationwide’s sales strategy and performance excellence for personal lines products and offerings. Responsible for direct management of profitable growth performance for Personal Lines. In addition to achieving the profit and growth numbers, this role is responsible for establishing the strategic vision and target operating mode, to achieve the vision for Personal Lines sales and distribution that will sustain success into the future. The successful management of the agency force and sales associates is critical to the continued success of the operation. Responsible for the performance oversight and relationship management of personal lines distribution.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:   

Personal Lines Sales Strategy and Leadership: 

  • Develop, sponsor, and lead a comprehensive sales strategy to achieve profitable growth objectives. Primary measures of success: total revenue and new business growth within appetite, TCR, NOI, CEM, associate engagement, agency engagement and productivity. 

  • Collaborate across the value stream, including underwriting, marketing, product and operations to ensure alignment and synergy in sales efforts and agency engagement. 

  • Provide visionary leadership to the sales team, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and customer-centricity. 

  • Set ambitious sales targets, implement sales methodologies, and monitor performance to optimize the sales process and achieve results. 

Relationship Development and Management: 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key brokers, networks and distribution partners to enhance business partnerships, agency loyalty and business growth. 

  • Identify and pursue opportunities to expand and diversify our national distribution network, including partnerships with agents and brokers. 

  • Design compensation and reward systems to incentivize and align distribution behavior to achieve targeted outcomes. 

  • Conduct and attend distribution meetings and presentations to understand agency needs and represent Nationwide Personal Lines. 

  • Partner with marketing and product development teams to identify market segments and develop innovative products that meet agent and customer needs.  

  • Collaborate with other Nationwide businesses (e.g., NWAG, Life, ES&S, NNP) to ensure appropriate coordination of activities for shared distribution partners. 

    

Sales Team Management and Development: 

  • Lead and inspire the sales team, providing guidance and support to achieve individual and collective sales objectives. 

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and skill development within the sales team, ensuring staff is equipped to effectively represent Nationwide and its products.  

  • Implement performance management practices, including setting KPIs, conducting regular evaluations, and providing constructive feedback. 

Sales Performance and Markey Analysis:  

  •  Develop sales plans and forecasts, track progress and utilize data-driven insights to make informed decisions and adjust sales strategies as needed to maintain a competitive advantage. 

  • Champion the use of CRM systems and other sales tools to streamline processes, monitor sales activities, and ensure accurate data management. 

  • Monitor market trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory developments to identify opportunities and challenges in the personal lines insurance sector. 

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.   

 

Reporting Relationships: Reports to President, Personal Lines  

 

Breadth Across Enterprise: Role is directly accountable for Sales and Distribution for Personal Lines. Role is also responsible for collaborating with Underwriting and Product, Nationwide Financial, Strategic Partnerships and more to ensure appropriate execution of Personal Lines strategies. 

 

Financial Responsibility and Scope: Role is responsible for the profit and losses of Personal Lines. 

 

Typical Skills and Experiences:   

 

Education: Undergraduate degree. Master's degree is preferred. 

 

Experience: 15 years’ industry experience, with independent agency experience preferred. Operations orientation with broad understanding of P/C business. Management experience in two or more core P/C functions (underwriting, sales, etc.).  

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong organizational savvy and ability to develop relationships and work in partnership with Personal Lines cabinet members. Ability to drive the vision and purpose by painting a compelling view of the vision and strategy that motivates others to action. Has strong interpersonal savvy and can relate openly and comfortably with diverse groups of people and creating strong followership throughout the organization.  Communicates effectively. Has strong ability to drive results even under tough circumstances.  

 

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.  

 

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resource Business Partner. 

 

License/Certification/Designation: Professional insurance designation is preferred.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Some travel may be required.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.

The national salary range for SVP, P&C Sales & Distribution : $274,500.00-$457,500.00
