Vice President of Global Solutions Engineering

Exterro is seeking a motivated and results-driven VP of Global Solutions Engineering to join our dynamic SaaS sales team. In this role, you will lead and manage the technical sales engineering teams responsible for driving pre-sales, solution architecture, and technical enablement to accelerate the adoption of the company’s SaaS offerings globally. This leader will work closely with sales, product, and customer success teams to ensure customers receive the highest value from Exterro’s solutions. The VP will also play a critical role in shaping the overall sales strategy, leading technical engagements, and ensuring customer satisfaction. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a global strategy for system engineering and technical pre-sales to support business goals and revenue growth.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align technical sales initiatives with the overall company vision and objectives.
  • Identify emerging trends and innovations in SaaS to ensure the company stays competitive and ahead of the curve.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Build, manage, and mentor a high-performing global team of system engineers and technical sales professionals.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and customer-centricity across teams.
  • Define key performance metrics, establish accountability, and provide continuous coaching and development opportunities.
  • Attract, develop and retain to Solutions Engineering talent. 

Sales Enablement & Execution:

  • Lead the pre-sales technical engagement process, including solution demonstrations, architecture design, and proof-of-concept (PoC) execution and drive efficiency in the process. 
  • Partner with the sales team to drive deal velocity and conversion rates by addressing customer technical challenges.
  • Develop scalable technical processes, frameworks, and resources to support a growing global customer base.

Customer Advocacy:

  • Act as a trusted advisor to enterprise customers, understanding their needs and tailoring solutions to meet their business challenges.
  • Oversee the technical handoff between sales, implementation, and customer success teams.
  • Establish long-term relationships with key accounts, supporting customer retention and upsell opportunities.
  • Lead complex technical and business conversations.

Collaboration Across Functions:

  • Work with Product Management and R&D to influence product development based on customer feedback and market demands.
  • Partner with Marketing to deliver technical content, including whitepapers, case studies, and webinars, to support lead generation.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Operations to ensure accurate forecasting and resource allocation for global system engineering teams.

Operational Excellence:

  • Establish and manage budgets, ensuring effective use of resources to achieve organizational goals.
  • Leverage data-driven insights to improve technical sales processes and team performance.
  • Stay informed on market trends, competitors, and technology advancements to adjust strategies as needed.

 

Qualifications:

Experience 

  • 15+ years of experience in system engineering, pre-sales, or related technical roles, with at least 8+ years in a leadership capacity in a SaaS or cloud-based company.
  • Proven track record of managing large global teams and scaling technical sales organizations to support significant revenue growth.
  • Experience working with enterprise-level customers and navigating complex sales cycles.
  • Business value selling experience with the ability to connect and influence customer decisions. 

Technical Expertise:

  • Strong understanding of SaaS platforms, cloud technologies, APIs, and integration architectures.
  • Ability to articulate and design complex solutions tailored to customers’ technical and business needs.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, and data analytics is a plus.

Leadership Skills:

  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to inspire and align teams around a shared vision while driving results.
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving abilities and a customer-first mindset.

Other:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Relevant technical certifications (e.g., AWS, Azure, or similar) are a plus.
  • Ability to travel as needed (25-50%) to meet with partners, attend events, and foster relationships across the world.

We believe in the importance of pay transparency and strive to create a fair and equitable workplace for all employees. As a remote first organization, our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The salary range for this remote position is $175,000-$220,000 per year, based on skills, experience and qualifications. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate. Exterro is a total compensation company, and this role may be eligible for variable pay, equity, bonus and/or other forms of compensation as part of the package. In addition, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement plans, flexible paid time off and more.
