A DAY IN THE LIFE:
The National Accounts Director is responsible for executing payer access efforts for the Tandem’s product portfolio with assigned payers (GPO’s, PBM’s, and Plans). This role focuses on developing comprehensive Account Plans for, and managing relationships with, key national payers along with their participants in all channels, commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare, to ensure optimal access. Additionally, the National Accounts Director plays a critical role in helping shape the market access plan and strategy for all Tandem products. The National Accounts Director collaborates with cross-functional teams to drive product adoption and ensure patient access to Tandem’s life-changing therapies.
YOU’RE AWESOME AT:
- Develops the business case, leads negotiations, and manages contracts with assigned payers, balancing cost/benefit considerations related to discounts, rebates, and allowances.
- Proactively manages business relationships by understanding current and future trends within assigned customer segments.
- Creates, implements, and maintains detailed account plans for targeted accounts.
- Develops, implements, and regularly measures strategic account plans tailored to achieve mutually beneficial objectives with cross-functional customer and internal stakeholders.
- Monitors payer trends and competitor activities to inform strategy, providing regular updates to leadership.
- Participates in relevant corporate pricing discussions and evaluates and recommends ASP and rebate considerations based on current channel positions.
- Travels to accounts for face-to-face presentations and meetings, as necessary, to promote corporate business and maintain relationships.
- Delivers value proposition and Health Care Economic Information (HCEI) to educate payers, formulary committees and similar entities, on product and economic benefit.
- Provides key insights and information to cross-functional teams to identify trends, measure performance indicators, and pinpoint gaps and opportunities.
- Drives innovation and explores new strategies to meet evolving market demands.
- Participates in appropriate pull-through efforts with Sales, where necessary.
- Represents Market Access at various internal meetings
- Ensures work is performed in compliance with company policies including Privacy/HIPAA and other regulatory, legal, and safety requirements.
YOU'LL NEED:
- Bachelor degree, preferably in a life science, business or marketing or a combination of equivalent education and applicable job experience.
- 5+ years of experience in managed markets environment(s), payer experience preferred.
- 7-10 years pharmaceutical industry experience
- Previous experience includes working with national headquarters of managed care organizations and executing pull/push-through and any approved contracting tactics to local offices of the national organizations, as well as initiatives with other large and local managed care organizations
- Extensive understanding of commercial and Medicare Part D managed care organizations and processes.
- Solid history of building strong relationships with payer Medical and Pharmacy Directors (clinical and administrative), case managers, and other medical benefit managers.
- Ability to create and maintain postive working relationships with internal and external clients.
- Exceptional customer business planning, tactical planning, and successful execution skills
- Self-motivated and collaborative team player
- Able to objectively evaluate situations and make recommendations in strategy for complex accounts.
- Exceptional communication skills that include verbal, written and presentation abilities
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision and strategic independent thought.
- Demonstrated success with account management leadership.
- Able to travel and work from a home office; must maintain valid driver’s license and required auto insurance as well as good driving record, per company policy.
EXTRA AWESOME:
- Experience with both Pharmacy and Medical Benefit products, preferred.
- Previous contracting experience, preferred.
- Previous people management experience, preferred.
- MBA, preferred.
- Ability to manage all aspects of the contracting process /activities, strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success with Brand and Sales Management, strongly preferred.
TRAVEL:

Ability to travel by car or airplane up to 50% of the time.
- Able to travel as required and work from a home office; must maintain valid driver’s license and required auto insurance as well as good driving record, per company policy.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
The starting base pay range for this position is $169,000 - $215,000 annually plus incentive compensation (commission-based compensation is based on the achievement of goals). Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus, equity, and a robust benefits package.
Tandem offers health care benefits such as medical, dental, vision available your first day, as well as health savings accounts and flexible saving accounts. You’ll also receive 11 paid holidays per year, a minimum of 20 days of paid time off (with accrual starting on day 1) and you will have access to a 401k plan with company match as well as an Employee Stock Purchase plan.
