Account Manager, College Sales

Our Account Managers play a critical role on the Macmillan Learning sales team. They ensure customers have the tools and resources they need as instructors, from test bank access to invoice corrections to faculty training. Account Managers bridge the gap between our sales reps and our customer support team. They try to anticipate instructor and administrator needs before they arise so every Macmillan customer has a great experience. That means Account Managers sometimes deal with complex customer service issues, acting as a project manager and navigating multiple internal departments with or on behalf of our customers. Our Account Managers work closely with a group of field sales reps and are responsible for the ongoing success of the existing business in the assigned territory. Teamwork, collaboration, and communication are all keys to success in this position. The primary goals of this position are to support existing business and to identify new sales opportunities within an assigned territory.
To be successful in this role, an Account Manager must have the ability to connect and engage with customers as well as to regularly demonstrate competency in the following areas:
- Knowledge of and consistent use of SFDC - contacts, opportunities, reports, dashboards.
- Organization - time management, inbox management, queue management.
- Consistent collaboration with sales rep(s), and management, and other internal colleagues.
- Respond to all requests within 2 business days, preferably within 1 business day - personal inbox or queue.
- Prioritization throughout the day, week and month. There are busy days, weeks and months. Being able to prioritize and re-prioritize based on what’s happening.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex information orally, in writing, and in presentation to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with warehouse, marketing, editorial, sales reps, sales leadership.
- Technical proficiency in Macmillan platform.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and maintain productive customer relationships and generate repeat business with existing customers.
- Assess and respond to individual instructor needs by listening, understanding, overcoming obstacles, linking features to benefits, and providing ideal solutions that best meet the needs of the customer.
- Gain in-depth product knowledge of products and their digital platforms, as well as maintain broad knowledge of competitive markets and sales techniques.
Actively and accurately manage company CRM tool (Salesforce). This includes, but is not limited to, all customer interactions, contacts, sales opportunities, and pipelines. - Plan, coordinate, and execute online presentations or schedule demos as needed to faculty and institutional contacts throughout the year.
Coordinate with various groups within the company to support sales efforts and growth, working with the sales team in identifying potential customers through calls, email and campaigns. - Identify and develop sales leads for the field sales team to generate new business opportunities in the higher education markets.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Knowledge of MS Office.
- Excellent written and verbal skills, ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous sales experience
- Experience with Salesforce as a CRM
- Previous Higher Education experience
Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to concentrate and multi-task for long periods of time in a noisy/busy environment. Must be able to travel and work more than 40 hours per week as needed.
