A Brief Overview

Leads, manages, and directs Stop Loss Healthcare Reinsurance underwriting and product and business development activities which includes ESL, Turnkey, and Captives. Provides strategic leadership in business development, underwriting, pricing, financial planning, and reporting. Performs underwriting appraisals of insurance medium to large employers and captives. Serves as a key member of the Healthcare Reinsurance leadership team, providing strategic direction and fostering a spirit of cooperation and coordination among all departments. Responsible to achieve plan and aggressive growth goals ensuring infrastructure is in place to achieve the Employer Stop Loss expansion plan.

What you will do

  • Develops strategic business and product development and marketing plans which include strategies and tactics to enhance RGA Re’s national presence in Employer Stop Loss.

  • Oversees and evaluates new business opportunities and develops appropriate underwriting and pricing decisions.

  • Develops and maintains client relationships. Takes ownership of the relationship and ensures that clients’ objectives are met and gain understanding when the objectives are not feasible.

  • Collaborates with Business Development to manage our Employee Benefit Broker distribution sources i.e. close ratios, turnaround time, quality submission, etc.

  • Develops underwriting guidelines and models with associated documentation.

  • Collaborates with actuarial to provide underwriting and product development support.

  • Analyzes monthly results, summarizes findings and reports to senior management.

  • Partners with other healthcare areas in the development of employer stop loss solutions and client relationships.

  • Leads, manages, and directs the activities of department staff and management in all aspects of supervisory duties, including, but not limited to hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining direct reports. Fosters a positive and engaged work environment. Mentors associates and gives guidance on associate development. Manages completion of special projects as they arise and performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Math, Finance, Actuarial Sciences, Statistics or related field required required

  • 20+ Years Healthcare insurance or reinsurance underwriting or actuarial experience required

  • 10+ Years Management experience required

  • 10+ Years Experience working with Employee Benefit Brokers, Health Plans, and TPA’s preferred

  • Expert knowledge healthcare products: particularly employer stop loss and/or small group medical required

  • Ability to assess/enhance ESL end to end operating systems, to multi-task and meet tight deadlines, and to balance detail with departmental goals/objectives required

  • Expert oral and written communication and presentation skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received by all stakeholders, including customers and associates required

  • Highly advanced interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to work effectively with different disciplines, including pricing, investments, accounting, systems, and administration required

  • Highly advanced project management skills. Demonstrates ability to evaluate project objectives and scope feasibility, gain understanding, schedule resources, and manage budget to plan required

  • Highly advanced ability to analyze and solve complex problems/issues required

  • Expert ability to analyze and improve business processes, ability in translating business needs and problems into viable accepted solutions, ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through strategic planning and implementation of programs and policies required

  • Advanced knowledge of underwriting, claims, and product features of medical products and how they interact with pricing preferred

  • Highly advanced ability to bring an integrated perspective on issues that relate to business development, strategy, organization, and operations required

  • Ability to work independently and to work well within a team environment and participate in department projects required

  • Expertise in Specific and Aggregate Stop Loss Pricing System, Milliman Healthcare Cost Guidelines and/or other WSP Actuarial Cost Model required

  • Expert in effective end-to-end utilization of David Young or related front end ESL systems required

Compensation Range:

$171,220.00 - $254,960.00 Annual

Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
