The Specialist Manager will be responsible for managing a group of Sales Specialists to drive sales for assigned disciplines, products and designated higher education markets. While the position involves providing important feedback to marketing and editorial teams, the primary focus is on driving sales through active support of sales representatives, specialists and managers in the field. The Specialist Manager will support Sales Specialists with presentations and closing strategies for large opportunities, help develop and implement strategies to increase sales and serve as the conduit for marketing/editorial to the sales specialist team for the disciplines and markets they cover.
The Specialist Manager is expected to travel as needed, especially during the primary selling seasons for customer presentations, as well as training and evaluating their reports. Travel also includes regional and national conferences, as well as various training, marketing and sales events. This role manages other employees.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Sales Management
- Hire, train and manage all direct reports
- Work directly with the Directors of Sales and Specialist Teams to support sales strategy and continuously develop field sales reps
- Consistently communicate, coordinate, and collaborate with Sales Specialists, Marketing Managers, and Editors in relation to product strategies and sales targets
Sales & Product Knowledge
- Serve as a resource for sales presentations
- Collaborate with Sales Specialists, Sales Representatives, Sales Managers, Custom Specialists, Enterprise Solutions Specialists and Marketing/Editorial to develop and close key sales targets
- Facilitate business plan development and execution
Market Development, Planning and Growth
- Work with Publishers, Editors, Marketing Managers, and field sales groups to develop successful strategies designed to gain market share
- Communicate and reinforce sales strategies with Sales Specialists, at regional and national meetings, and during work trips in the field with sales representatives
- Provide ongoing research and feedback on products, trends, and other developments in the field to Executive Leadership, Sales Management, Marketing and Editorial via Trip Reports and consistent usage of the CRM
Training & Development
- Facilitate ongoing customer training and support for key technology products post-adoption
- Collaborate with support teams throughout the organization
- Provide feedback to continuously improve training tools for internal and external customers
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- A minimum of five years of successful college sales experience
- A minimum of three years of Sales Specialist experience
- Ability to work well independently and collaboratively with field sales team and Marketing/Editorial
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to travel extensively and flexibly
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience selling in STEM disciplines
- Experience managing direct reports
- Passion for emerging technologies in education and sales, with a strong understanding of how digital transformation is reshaping higher education
- Ability to identify trends before they become mainstream, leveraging industry insights to position the company as a leader in the market
- Comfort with ambiguity and change, thriving in a fast-paced, evolving sales environment where new opportunities and challenges arise frequently
- Track record of successfully launching new products or sales initiatives, demonstrating adaptability and forward-thinking strategies
Salary Range: $95,000 - $105,000
Exemption Status: Exempt
Physical Requirements:
Requires regular travel to customer meetings, conferences and company meetings. Must be able to multi-task and work outside of an office environment. Must be able to sit for long periods of time, and concentrate in busy/noisy environments. Must be able to work more than 40 hours a week as needed.
The position is eligible for remote employment, excluding the following locations: Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wyoming. Candidates who are centrally located in the US, and live near a major airport preferred.
