Special Buys Manager

JOB OVERVIEW:
Identifies and executes opportunities to acquire saleable products via the alternate source channel as outlined by the department. Creates and maintains excellent relations with our Alternate Sourcing Vendor (ASV) partners as well as coordinates with the Inventory Management team on the receipt of product(s). Make independent decisions that are essential to meet and achieve the organization’s objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identifies research and evaluates buying opportunities that exist in the marketplace for saleable products at a cost below the true net cost of the primary source.
- Manage the hybrid suppression portion of the business, including analyzing RFP bids & communicating with the Contracts team
- Develops and maintains good relationships with all Alternate Source Vendors.
- Recommends the appropriate business decision/direction needed to ensure we are maximizing profitability (taking into account vendor investment online), i.e., regarding fulfillment, pricing, and vendor activity.
- Partners with the Inventory Management team on the decisions made for all operational items, i.e., ASV cancellations; update delivery schedules; price increase/decrease, etc.
- Comprehend existing manufacturing agreements to ensure their compliance and determine how they will affect our overall objective, i.e., rebates; chargebacks; Co-ops; Alternate Sourcing Vendor Agreements.
- Coordinates all purchasing activities and communicates closely with all our vendor partners as well as internal team members.
- Create analytical spreadsheets that will be used to derive the best business decisions for purchasing the product.
- Updates individual vendor awards, calendars and track purchases to ensure we do not lose any expiring opportunities.
- Tracks projected savings to ensure we are on target for meeting our budget goals.
- Develops and maintains relationships with all buyers regarding activity in their respective lines.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- 7 - 10 years’ experience in buying, negotiation, analyzing and executing alternate source type of purchasing
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Must be strongly proficient in Excel and other PC applications.
- Detail Oriented; Strong Interpersonal Skills; Decision Making Skills.

Complete understanding and wide application of principles, theories and concepts of a particular field. Resolve a wide range of complex issues and assignments in creative and effective ways. Serve as a resource to others to resolve complex problems and issues. May play a support role in high-level projects that have an impact on company’s future direction. May take on project lead role on medium-sized projects. Barriers to entry may exist at this level.
COMPLEXITY:
- Work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Interpret internal and/or external business issues and recommend solutions/best practices to solve a range of complex problems and assignments; take a broad perspective to identify solutions. Exercise judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Guide others in resolving complex issues based on existing solutions and procedures. Network with key senior internal and external personnel inside and outside own area of expertise.
SUPERVISION:
- Determine methods and procedures for new assignments and work independently with guidance in only the most complex situations. May act as a resource to formally train and mentor TSMs with less experience. Assignments are broad and moderately complex in nature. May manage vendor relationships.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Typically, to advance to a new job level, TSMs must demonstrate professional behavior and should consistently be at the high-end of meets expectations or consistently exceed expectations.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Typically 8 or more years of increasing responsibility and complexity in terms of any applicable professional experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION:
Typically a Bachelor's Degree or global equivalent in related discipline. Master's degree or global equivalent preferred. May hold two or more industry certifications.
TRAVEL / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Travel typically less than 10%. Office environment. No special physical demands required.
The posted range for this position is $86,041 to $134,440 which is the expected starting base salary range for an employee who is new to the role to fully proficient in the role. Many factors go into determining employee pay within the posted range including prior experience, current skills, location/labor market, internal equity, etc.
This position is eligible for a bonus not reflected in the posted range.
