Software Engineer - Developer Sandbox

Raleigh, United States

The team powers Developer Sandbox, which is a free public-facing production service which provides users with a 30-day trial experience to a selection of Red Hat products. Users get instant access to an environment (namespace-as-a-service) for evaluation and experimentation.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work in one of the most exciting production environments. Your job will be to develop, scale, and operate our service to become the default hands-on, no setup trial experience for Red Hat products.

As a Software Engineer on the Developer Sandbox team, you'll design and implement new features as well as robust security measures to fend off misuse, supercharge our monitoring systems for long-term sustainability, and automate tedious processes to free up your creativity. You'll also have the opportunity to explore specialized career paths in areas like monitoring, observability, alerting, feature and tool development, maintenance, and managing OpenShift production clusters. We develop, test, deploy, and maintain – while fostering an environment where transparency, teamwork, and diverse voices are celebrated. We embrace a culture of learning from our failures in a blame-free setting, ensuring every challenge is a stepping stone to growth. If you’re driven by the same passion for cutting-edge technologies and running OpenShift in the real world, we would love hearing from you.

Feel free to give it a try: https://developers.redhat.com/developer-sandbox

  • Write tools/integrations/automations that aids in the management of Developer Sandbox and perform operational engineering work to support its maintenance activities.

  • Write unit tests and end-to-end tests that run upon every single Pull Request.

  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to establishing best practices within the team.

  • Design and implement APIs, Grafana dashboards, alerts and metrics to improve insights into service health, compliance, and performance.

  • Practice security incident response and blameless postmortems.

  • Performing developer support and maintenance for internal and external stakeholders for the product trials.

What you will bring:

  • Experience in using git and programming with Golang.

  • Delivering code with comprehensive unit and e2e tests.

  • Experience working with OpenShift or Kubernetes-based environments.

  • Ability to quickly, accurately and collaboratively troubleshoot system issues in a team setting.

  • Basic understanding of UNIX or Linux operating systems and containers.

  • Demonstrated comfort with collaboration, open communication, and reaching across functional boundaries.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a global remote team.

The following will be considered a plus:

  • Experience with developing either Kubernetes controllers or OpenShift Operators.

  • Experience managing Linux servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS, or Fedora hosted at a cloud provider such as Amazon Web Services (AWS).

  • Experience with enterprise systems monitoring (Prometheus, Alert Manager).

  • Experience with DevOps practices, GitOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as a Code.

  • Basic understanding of networking (Proxy, DNS, HTTP).

  • Experience with TypeScript.

  • Previous code contributions to or participation in open source projects or code samples on GitHub is a plus.
