Senior Underwriter Professional

  • Exempt/ full time

  • Reports to SVP- Head of Professional Liability

  • Travel: Up to 30%

  • $100,000-$130,000

Role overview

Underwriters are expected to solicit, select or reject submissions and price a wide variety of Professional Liability policies appropriately. Underwriters also administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.

As a Senior Underwriter, the person hired will also be expected to mentor and train more junior level underwriters should this be needed. They will also be expected to review and give feedback on accounts to more junior level underwriters.

Role responsibilities

  • Effectually identify, market, and underwrite prospective accounts in targeted industries

  • Direct and supervise underwriting activities as the need arises to produce positive profit and expense results within area of responsibility.

  • Develop positive relationships with Brokers and effectively articulate DUAL's appetite.  In Person broker visits expected 5 days a month

  • Solicit, review, and coordinate new business opportunities with brokers

  • Underwrite both new and renewal business

  • Exhibit high levels of collaboration, leadership, customer service, and persistence

  • Provide strong analytical ability and sound judgment to make informed and accurate decisions with the goal of writing profitable business, not just volume.

Key requirements

  • 10 years’ experience in Professional Lines with a focus on Architects and Engineers E&O

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Strong negotiation and presentation skills

  • Self-motivated individual

  • Outstanding marketing skills
