Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Revenue, the Senior Revenue Accountant will be responsible for timely and accurate revenue recognition, monthly close, audit inquiries, and review of contracts with customers. The Revenue Accountant will help to create and implement improved accounting processes for sales from the proposal through invoicing and revenue recognition. The ideal candidate has excellent business acumen, proficiency in managing and analyzing large data sets, and can be hands-on in the development and implementation of internal controls over revenue and internal reporting.  In addition, the strong candidate has strong knowledge of ASC 606 and experience working with external auditors and various internal teams, such as sales, sales operations, legal and finance.  The ideal candidate is looking for an opportunity to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact to the DrFirst team through creative problem solving, process improvement, and change management. 

What you will work on

  • Perform monthly close duties for revenue in accordance with established close timelines, including journal entries, invoicing, and account reconciliations for deferred and unbilled revenue and other contract costs such as deferred commissions.
  • Actively maintain and review designated general ledger accounts and activity including investigation of monthly variances for reasonableness.
  • Document revenue recognition position for contracts with customers.
  • Review contracts with customers to identify potential accounting issues and to monitor compliance with the company's revenue recognition policies and ensure revenue is recognized in accordance with ASC 606. 
  • Assist in the development of SOX compliant documentation of internal controls.
  • Assist sales and legal teams with contract negotiation by participating in discussions, reviewing draft contracts, and providing revenue recognition recommendations.
  • Build strong collaborative working relationships with internal and external teams (Sales, Legal, Sales operations, Legal) with a focus on driving efficiencies and process improvement.
  • Create and maintain detailed revenue reporting and ad hoc analysis as needed for management purposes.
  • Assist with external audit requests during interim and annual audit.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration. Licensed CPA preferred.
  • Technical and strategic leader with experience in process improvement and desire to drive automation using financial systems and tools.
  • Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in software or technology sectors with SaaS arrangements, revenue shares, and other various customer contracts.
  • Solid experience in revenue accounting for complex financial and high volume transactions, managing reporting, billing, deferred revenue, and contract costs.
  • Keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills with thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Must be comfortable extracting and working hands-on with sales and billing data, account reconciliations, and other duties as assigned.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, and credibility; a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker with excellent analytical, organizations, and time prioritization skills. 
  • Technology savvy with intermediate to advanced knowledge of major accounting software packages for general ledger and accounting, MS Word, and MS Excel.  Experience with NetSuite a plus. 
  • Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, presentation, and influencing skills, including the ability to raise and resolve issues appropriately.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, or other outside partners.

  • 90% working at desk/ phone
  • 10% travel to DrFirst and customer locations per business requirements

  • Competitive compensation, with a base salary of $95,000 - $125,000 (Exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience)
