Senior Construction Specialties Risk Engineering Consultant: Midwest/Plains states or South-Central region of the US: Kansas City, Omaha, Oklahoma City, Minneapolis, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Eastern Texas, Western Tennessee.
Zurich is currently looking for a Senior Construction Risk Engineer for the Builders Risk/Construction Property Line of Business. This is a work from home virtual role with a periodic office presence, to reside within the above noted areas. Ideally, candidates would be located near a major airport. The role includes a company car with expected travel of 25-30% of your time depending on business needs.
As a Senior Construction Risk Engineering Consultant, you will be responsible for:
- Adapting Zurich's Innovative Solutions to the Construction Industry with the objective of minimizing impacts to customer losses, and overall improvement of Sustainability & Business Resiliency at the Corporate Level.
- Leveraging Zurich’s risk engineering tools and services to improve customer risk and general account management of customers who purchase Zurich Construction Insurance products such as: Builders Risk and Construction Property.
- Delivering high-quality risk consulting services that include remote and onsite customer and prospective risk assessments of construction company operations and projects. Risk Engineers must be able to identify construction exposures and program risk control gaps to form the basis of risk mitigation recommendations.
- Producing independently written, technical market facing reports that analyze project and operational risk. Prospect analyses are utilized by business partners to form the basis of underwriting, claims and other insurance decisions to identify and manage risk.
- Developing and maintaining positive business partner, broker and customer relationships
- Marketing and selling a wide range of fee services to customers that support their risk mitigation efforts.
- Developing and delivering advanced level presentations and risk management training for customers and internal business partners.
- Assisting customers with developing corporate and project specific QA/QC plans, water intrusion prevention/mitigation plans, crane management programs, conducting building envelope reviews and reviewing hurricane emergency action plans.
Final candidates will be subject to a Motor Vehicle record background check as this position includes a company car.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area
OR - High School Diploma or Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area
OR - Zurich Certified Apprentice, including an Associates degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area
AND - Experience working in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, Building Technology, or equivalent
- Construction field experience: Project Management, and/or Superintendent - mid to senior level position.
- Advanced level experience in the management/oversight of complex construction projects, industry trends and emerging risks specific to the energy-sector, mass timber, tunneling/hydro, data centers, and crane risk analysis. Civil works projects experience (bridge construction, highway, rail) also highly desirable.
- Experience in energy projects (i.e. solar panel installations, geothermal power plants, hydroelectric dams, biomass power plants, nuclear power stations and SMR’s, power transmission lines, energy storage facilities)
- Experience with data center and Mass Timber construction
- Advanced level experience with analyzing geotechnical risk, various natural catastrophe exposures, project schedules including delay and impact analysis, supply chain impacts, and identifying and calculating estimated maximum loss scenarios is preferred for the role.
- Hazard identification & mitigation skills; analytical aptitude
- Knowledge of Construction Specialty insurance products: Construction Property, Builders Risk
- Intermediate knowledge of exposures, controls and best practice risk improvement methodologies; awareness of Construction Workforce and Economic issues
- Comfortable utilizing current technology; familiar with building information modeling, and standard computer software programs and communication applications
- Professional certifications: CCM, P.E., PMP, AIA, LEED AP, etc.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, iOS/iPad Skills, Virtual Consulting
- Advanced technical writing skills
- Strong leadership skills; experience working in both independent and team environments.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and consulting skills with the ability to communicate and consult at both the corporate and project site levels effectively and professionally.
- Leadership and involvement in extracurricular activities, organizations and/or community, public service, or similar activities.

Additional rewards may encompass short-term incentive bonuses and merit increases. We encourage candidates with salary expectations beyond the provided range to apply as they will be considered based on their experience, skills, and education. The compensation indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The proposed salary range for this position is $98,300.00 - $161,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%.
