Project Manager - Technical

The Agility & Technical Solutions team drives operational excellence across Red Hat’s Product Engineering organization through targeted projects, leading continuous improvement and adoption of the agile mindset and providing the essential tools Red Hatters needs. We’re looking for a Project Manager to join our team. As part of our team, you’ll plan, execute, and deliver projects on time, within budget, and within scope in accordance with business priorities. You’ll manage the project lifecycle, track project status, and manage project teams to mitigate issues and risks.
This role is in Raleigh NC and you MUST be able to work onsite.
What You Will Do
Project planning, execution, and delivery
Independently guide planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting activities for Global Engineering projects.
Ensure adherence to product security and other project-specific requirements.
Scope & change management
Manage project requirements, scope, and change management processes.
Facilitate the development of project control solutions by integrating various project management tools.
Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, Miro, etc.
Metrics & reporting
Establish appropriate metrics to measure key project success criteria.
Develop project control and reporting procedures to track progress and performance.
Stakeholder communication & leadership
Lead status review meetings with project team members and stakeholders.
Provide clear and consistent communication on project status, risks, and next steps.
Methodology & best practices
Leverage PMI frameworks and other best practices to ensure structured, efficient, and scalable project management.
Adapt project management methodologies—whether agile, waterfall, or hybrid—to align with specific business and technical requirements.
Regularly assess and refine methodologies to optimize workflows, improve delivery timelines, and enhance project outcomes (Continues Improvement).
Coaching & team support
Coach and advise team members on achieving project goals and meeting established schedules.
Support teams in resolving technical or operational challenges to ensure successful project delivery.
What You Will Bring
Experience & Education
5+ years of experience managing large, complex software projects in high-tech development environments with multifunctional teams.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Project management expertise
Strong understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) models.
Expert knowledge of both agile and traditional project management principles and practices.
Ability to blend agile and traditional methodologies to fit specific project and business needs.
Technical competency & risk management
Sufficient technical background to provide credible leadership to development teams.
Capability to accurately and objectively assess and monitor complex project risks and issues.
Interpersonal & leadership skills
Strong mentoring, coaching, collaboration, and team-building abilities.
Excellent interpersonal skills to foster productive team dynamics.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, motivating teams and mediating conflicts effectively.
Analytical & organizational skills
Excellent analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
Proven ability to manage competing demands and priorities efficiently.
Certifications (preferred but not required)
Project Management Professional (PMP)
Certified Project Manager (CPM)
Certified Scrum Master (CSM)
Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP)
PRINCE2
Pay Transparency
Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
