This role will lead a team of Regional Wholesalers (RVPs) focusing on Advisors for our Life Insurance team predominately located East of the Mississippi. Leadership experience is a strong priority for this role as is living near a major metropolitan airport on EST.

As a Sales Manager, you'll plan, develop, implement and manage a sales program to distribute life products and solutions through a team of wholesalers within the sales division.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Identifies and hires a team of wholesalers in the assigned division to deliver products and solutions through distribution partner firms and financial professionals.

  • Leads profitable sales growth through consistent coaching with each wholesaler.

  • Collaborates with sales team and leadership to implement, execute, supervise and convey vision of new sales and distribution strategies.

  • Assists wholesalers in maintaining focus on the comprehensive business plan, including sales goal, calendar, budget and scorecard.

  • Provides coaching and feedback on sales process execution through observation of both in-person and virtual meetings with distribution partners.

  • Uses data insights and analytics to drive strategy and sales results.

  • Collaborates with business partners, internally and externally, to expand distribution partnerships, grow sales and retain existing business.

  • Provides input on territory structure, wholesaler compensation, internal sales support and distribution partner communications. Leads a culture of compliance and adherence to all company policies.

  • Foster a culture of diversity and inclusion.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to sales executive of assigned channel.

Typical Skills and Experiences: 


Education: Undergraduate studies in insurance, business, finance or related fields preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Series 6/7, Series 63, Series 24/26 and State Life, Health, and Annuity license. CLU, ChFC, or CFP preferred. 

Experience: Between one and three years of internal wholesaling experience, three to five years external wholesaling experience of financial service products, as well as proven sales leadership skills.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: College-level mathematics, finance, statistics, economics, economics and investment management theories/practices. Financial service products, life insurance, long term care insurance, contracts, securities trading and regulation, and competitor products, policies, practices and procedures in customer service and investment product processing.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.

Working Conditions: Combination working remotely from home and travel to the assigned region as well as the home office. Significant travel required. Must have a valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record in accordance with Nationwide standards.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. This position allows for the potential to earn performance-based commissions or incentives that may constitute the majority of target compensation.

The national salary range for Divisional Sales Manager - Life : $125,000-$125,000
