Business Performance Senior Manager

What you will do

R&D Strategy & Performance Excellence function is part of the overall R&D Strategy & Operations organization. This function is responsible for evolving, managing, and driving functional transformation, continuous improvement, strategic initiatives, and performance management across all R&D functions and delivering business results that drive peak R&D Productivity and Operational Excellence globally. The team will also be focused on building critical business and operational excellence capabilities that enable Amgen to respond to rapid advancements in science and technology within a rapidly changing business environment.

We are seeking a dynamic Business Performance Senior Manager to join our team, dedicated to driving value by streamlining Amgen's most critical cross-functional processes. In this role, you will collaborate closely with leaders and stakeholders on high-priority initiatives aimed at simplifying end-to-end operations.

  • Drive/support teams to execute R&D transformation initiatives, align priorities with goals, and contribute to strategic planning.
  • Translate transformation goals into action plans, drive change management, and ensure stakeholder engagement.
  • Implement performance metrics, mitigate risks, and streamline processes to achieve strategic objectives.
  •  Enhance continuous improvement, train teams in agile and change management, and introduce governance frameworks.
  •  Advise leaders with data-driven insights, support business case development, and strengthen cross-functional relationships.
  • Lead innovation projects, optimize processes, and pilot new solutions to improve operations.
  •  Foster cross-functional collaboration, share knowledge, and apply industry trends.
  • Create clear presentations, translate insights into recommendations, and train teams in effective communication.
  • Guide team development, promote innovation, and provide targeted skill-building opportunities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree & 2 years of Biotech/Pharma-related Management experience in business operations or financial analytics

Or

  • Master’s degree & 6 years of Biotech/Pharma-related Management experience in business operations or financial analytics

Or

  • Bachelor’s degree & 8 years of Biotech/Pharma-related Management experience in business operations or financial analytics

And

  • 2 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the financial management of resources.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in either business, finance, or life sciences
  • 6 years’ work experience in life sciences field, including 3 years of biopharmaceutical R&D experience with a strong understanding of the drug development process
  • Management consulting experience is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency with data visualization tools (Tableau) and collaboration tools (Smartsheet, Miro, MS Teams, MS Office suite)
  • Mergers & Acquisitions experience
  • Strategy/Operations experience within a biotech, pharmaceutical or CRO company
  • Strong background in change management
  • Understanding of the R&D, drug development, resource management, and commercialization process
  • Experience in the use of performance management techniques, measures, problem solving and analytical thinking
  • Biotechnology / Pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Business process and systems management
  • Experience working in fast-changing and often ambiguous environment

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
