About the role:
The VP of Regulatory Affairs will lead all Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) activities, ensuring The Nuclear Company meets all regulatory requirements for its fleet-scale deployment of AP1000 reactors. This position will be responsible for permitting and licensing activities. Strong relationships will be built with local and federal regulators.
This role requires a deep understanding of nuclear licensing pathways and the ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks efficiently. The VP of Regulatory Affairs will be responsible for ensuring regulatory engagement is proactive, not reactive, minimizing delays and expediting licensing approvals. This role will also provide critical input into fleet-level risk management, ensuring compliance strategies are built into every phase of development. The Nuclear Company will focus on heavy engagement with the NRC to implement and pilot key initiatives from the Advance Act.
Additionally, the VP of Regulatory Affairs will work closely with the VP of Government Affairs to align The Nuclear Company’s regulatory efforts with broader policy and legislative initiatives that support nuclear energy expansion.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all NRC licensing and regulatory activities, ensuring The Nuclear Company’s fleet-scale deployment remains in full compliance.
- Develop a regulatory roadmap that aligns licensing approvals with project construction milestones, minimizing delays.
- Serve as primary liaison to the NRC. Also partner with government affairs and external affairs to build relationships with Utility Commissions and state regulatory bodies, ensuring strong engagement and communication.
- Lead the preparation and submission of Construction Permit (CP), Combined License (COL), and Early Site Permit (ESP) applications (as applicable).
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local nuclear safety regulations, working closely with deployment and technology teams.
- Oversee the development of safety reports, environmental impact assessments, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with The Nuclear Company’s Legal & Policy & Government Relations teams to influence regulatory frameworks.
- Monitor regulatory trends ensuring The Nuclear Company remains ahead of potential rule changes and is leading the industry to influence these trends.
- Oversee the development of internal regulatory training programs, ensuring all teams understand compliance requirements.
- Lead engagement efforts with industry groups such as NEI, ensuring alignment on best practices.
- Support the Finance and Gov Relations team on DOE program work.
- Manage fleet level 10 CFR Part 52 initiatives.
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field
- 15+ years of experience in the nuclear energy industry with a strong focus on regulatory affairs.
- Deep knowledge of NRC regulations and licensing requirements.
- Proven experience in interacting with and influencing regulatory agencies.
- Experience leading and managing regulatory teams.

- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex regulatory issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with advanced reactor technologies or other emerging nuclear technologies.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
- Experience in project management and risk management.

Estimated Starting Salary Range:
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $250,000 - $279,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a semi-monthly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
