Your primary focus will be on underwriting results driven by loss ratio and underwriting expense. This role oversees Auto, Powersports, Umbrella and ID Theft.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Sets coverage(s) offered, risk appetite available along with risk selection capabilities including strategy for the auto product.
- Develops countrywide best practices for both product and underwriting including partnering with pricing in maintaining leading segmentation capabilities within class plan.
- Instills product factory mentality with focus on:
Policy wording and coverage definitions
Competitor intelligence
Market/economic intelligence
Align strategy across customer and distribution partners
Execution of technology to deliver solutions while managing portfolio across product and underwriting
- Instills underwriting/risk assessment factory mentality with focus on:
Risk appetite definition
Best practices around risk eligibility guidelines
Risk selection rules and execution of quality controls across new and renewal business
Manages market gaps in class plan/pricing to ensure adverse selection is minimized
- Product line performance monitoring including KPIs, continues feedback loop with claims, external trends, market cycles, distribution, etc.
- Accountable for the operationalization and optimization of Tier I and Tier II program initiatives into business operations.
- Maintain best in class capabilities across telematics spectrum and innovative solutions.
- Set best practices around expected mix of business, perils and overall segmentation.
- Manages operational budgets to ensure expense dollars driving value where appropriate.
- Responsible for PL compliance.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to SVP, PL Product & Underwriting. Manages a team of Underwriting and Product professionals including AVPs and Directors.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Bachelor's degree or post graduate studies preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in personal/commercial lines insurance, financial services, marketing, pricing, product management, underwriting or communication, including 10 years of leadership experience. Must have the ability to solve complex problems for Personal Lines Product and Underwriting needs.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong understanding of the insurance industry and in-depth competitor knowledge. Demonstrated success leading multiple disciplines such as Product, Pricing, Sales, Underwriting, and/or Claims. Excellent ability to interact with peers and management, including verbal and written communication skills. Effective at interpreting and presenting complex information so that it is easily understood across a broad range of audiences. Strong strategic ability. Ability to effectively interact with executive leadership and frontline associates. Effective influencing skills.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
