Summary: The Portfolio Leader is responsible for overseeing portfolio optimization and managing carrier relationships for a Region. This role is strategic in nature and will work directly with sales and account teams on program and placement strategy development and execution, carrier selection and negotiations, especially on the largest and most complex placements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads the review and analysis of the P&C book of business to identify growth strategies and program optimizations
- Accountable for achieving portfolio and team KPI’s including growth, retention, and margin objectives
- Defines success and influences client service teams and producer activity to achieve the optimal outcomes for clients/prospects; ensures a go-to-market strategy is in place for each broking engagement; assists in the development and execution of creative solutions in difficult to place scenarios
- Partners with account teams to understand client needs across the portfolio and develops strategies for the effective deployment of client-facing resources and technology to successfully impact the client’s service experience, solidifying our position as an industry-leading broker
- Ensures NFP team members are executing on NFP’s broking strategies that improve margin and efficiency including utilization of strategic carriers, panel placements, MGA/MGU, wholesale-to-retail and preferred wholesaler. Actively monitors, measures and reports on progress.
- Drives and supports prospect sales efforts, expands existing client relationships through cross-sell and up-sell initiatives, ensures distinctive client value is delivered through all placement and facets of service engagement
- Partners closely with NFP National Carrier Management team to align with and drive consistent strategic initiatives
- Forges strong, productive and resilient multi-level relationship with carriers at both the national and regional levels to ensure a strategic approach to managing our key carrier partners
- Ensures the NFP account and broking teams continue to develop and maintain strong relationships with key carrier partners; ensures NFP teams have thorough knowledge of the insurance marketplace, products, and services through the dissemination of carrier materials and carrier meetings
- Liaises with P&C Leaders and Subject Matter Experts to support client business development and retention
- Demonstrate exceptional negotiation skills – assists or leads the brokering of specific risks, possess an awareness of different personality types and ability to adjust approach to effectively drive the optimal outcome; capable of interacting with all audiences within client, carrier, wholesale, vendor, and specialty organizations; effectively lead NFP team members in difficult scenarios and collaborates effectively with NFP team, producers, and leadership
- Demonstrates the highest level of integrity, ethical behavior, and professionalism; leads by example
- Supports the recruitment and acquisition of talent that aligns with current and future organizational requirements; support the development of high-potential talent
- Ensures adherence to compliance requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:
- Strong relationship management skills with the ability to influence and drive a team who they are not directly responsible for
- Significant business insight in operational management of a book of business; proven track record of achieving KPIs
- Excellent leadership and portfolio management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Extensive understanding of broker operating fundamentals and financials
- Excellent negotiation skills – ability to adjust approach to effectively drive optimal outcomes depending on different personalities
- Excellent organizational skills
- Self-motivated and determined with positive attitude and sense of urgency
- Strong attention to detail with strong analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative
- Proven technical competency and creativity demonstrating excellence in developing and delivering innovative property and casualty solutions
- Confident, poised and interactive - when client-facing communicates effectively, demonstrates emotional intelligence, and understands how to tailor responses in a variety of dynamic situations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with Epic (agency management system) a plus
Education and/or Experience:
- BA/BS or equivalent required; MA/MS degree a plus
- Minimum ten years insurance experience
- Prior team leadership experience required
- Broad exposure to a variety of lines of insurance, products, services, and technology
Certificates, Licenses, Registration:
- P&C License required or obtained within 90 days of employment

Travel: As needed to support carrier, team, and business relations – less than 20%
Work Location: Hybrid in-office and work-from-home environment is required. It is the expectation that this role will be in the office or traveling to collaborate with the team and leadership at least three (3) days per week.

The base salary range for this position is $84,000 to $150,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
