Vice President, Financial Institution Ratings

The Role:
Morningstar DBRS is seeking an experienced full-time senior credit analyst to join its Financial Institution Ratings team in New York. The individual will have lead and backup analyst responsibilities on a portfolio of U.S. banks. The position will report to the Sector Lead. Candidates with minimum of seven years of experience in financial institutions credit analysis gained from a rating agency or financial institution or related experience will be given priority.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be part of an experienced and growing team of professionals responsible for analyzing financial institutions, primarily banks, in the U.S. The analyst’s main responsibilities will be to act as a lead analyst in managing a portfolio of issuers, including ongoing analysis and surveillance, participate in rating committees and attend issuer meetings. Ancillary activities will include participating in cross-team initiatives across the Fundamental Ratings group, which also includes our Corporate Finance and Sovereign ratings teams.
The analyst will be required to have both solid financial industry and specific issuer/financial sector knowledge; strong financial statement analytical abilities and spreadsheet skills, excellent verbal and written communications skills. The analyst will also prepare and deliver rating committee presentations and publish press releases, rating reports and insightful topical research of high quality and regular cadence in order to materially contribute to Morningstar DBRS’s Thought Leadership goals. Strong client facing skills will be expected and it is anticipated that over time, the analyst will be interacting with media outlets in various capacities to share credit opinions.
Highly motivated candidates who are self-starters with a strong work ethic and who have the following skills will be paid particular attention: strong writing, quantitative and presentation skills; knowledge of the U.S. financial system; and experience working under pressure in a close-knit team in the field of financial institution analysis, bank ratings or bank debt capital markets.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in business, finance or a closely related field.
- Masters degree and CFA are a plus
- Minimum of seven years of experience in bank/and or financial institution credit analysis or directly related field
- Excellent business writing, communication and analytical capacity
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to proactively build an internal network across our Fundamental Ratings team, especially with respect to our European and Canadian banking teams, in order to facilitate the sharing of ideas and generate collaborative research.
- Team player with demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to travel as required
- Bloomberg skills a plus

Base Salary Compensation Range
$110,000.00 - 205,000.00 USD AnnualBonus Target %
