Position Summary:

The Vice President will lead the development and execution of strategies for Biomarker Development and Companion Diagnostics, focusing on commercial success and managing relationships with diagnostic partners. This role requires extensive experience in the diagnostics industry and collaboration across all therapeutic areas. This leadership level role will be responsible for identifying, developing and executing Biomarker Development and Companion Diagnostics vision inclusive of building program strategy from concept to launch driving commercial successes. This includes building, managing and leveraging contracting and ongoing relationship management Diagnostic partners who can develop, secure global regulatory approval, and commercially launch global diagnostic solutions (Dx) in support of Lilly’s Rx pipeline. This position requires experience managing a highly functioning scientific team.  

This individual will be expected to lead this effort across a team of scientific professionals while also regularly working with LRL leadership to design and propose Dx strategy across all therapeutic areas. Additionally,  this individual will effectively be responsible for identifying the strategy for securing a variety of Diagnostic partner companies.

Position requires outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, ability to influence across all levels of the organization, proven ability to negotiate complex business decisions, high learning agility and ability to successfully navigate ambiguity.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and drive strategy across Dx landscape while engaging with key internal leaders (Discovery, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Legal, Business Development, External Sourcing, Procurement, Statistics, Quality etc.) to ensure execution of Diagnostics strategies across all therapeutic areas across Lilly.

  • Lead scientific team responsible for executing Dx vision inclusive of building program strategy from concept to launch driving commercial success while forging meaningful external relationships in support of these objectives.

  • Understand and build strategy to account for the unique clinical development objectives of each drug program to inform Dx alternatives and solutions. 

  • Evaluate the diagnostic capabilities across Lilly required to support successful regulatory approval.

  • Ensure team is engaged and providing diagnostic consult and support is provided across all drug teams regarding partner options based on program needs and registration strategy.

  • Work closely with Corporate Business Development team to identify potential partnerships and serve as an active champion and advocate for deals and partnerships that bring the best Diagnostic solutions forward.  

Basic Requirements:

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Immunology or related field of study and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in a leadership role within the CDx space supporting development and commercialization within a Pharma/Biotech/Device environments.

  • Proven experience successfully managing and leveraging alliance management, pharma collaboration, and/or partnership management.

  • Demonstrated experience navigating the scientific, technical, operational, and business challenges across the regulated clinical diagnostics industry.

  • Experience successfully engaging with and interacting with Health Authorities (FDA)

  • Proven experience in developing and identifying strategy across CDx development both internally and externally.

  • Experience in negotiating complex deals demonstrating a high level of business acumen.

  • Proven success managing a large, geographically diverse, scientific team.

  • Strong ability to identify a problem and evaluate problem-solving options.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Initiative / self-starter mentality

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Executive presence and the ability to influence outcomes.

Additional Preferences:

  • MBA preferred

  • Project Plan management experience

  • Experience in a global landscape

Additional Information:

Anticipated travel for this role will be 40-50% US and Global travel.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$238,500 - $380,600

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
