Role description:

As a Sustainability Specialist in the Global Sustainability team, you will be responsible for conducting research and analysis and proposing solutions on a variety of sustainability-related topics to help the Global Sustainability Programs advance in alignment with external assurance requirements and commercial opportunities. As part of your role, you will be supporting the integration of the programs within the business, supporting pilot projects, testing innovative tools and approaches, preparing lighthouse examples, developing and facilitating trainings, and supporting the preparation of thought leadership on specific topics.

The Sustainability Specialist – Nature & Biodiversity will report to the Sustainability Specialist reports to a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the Global Sustainability Enabling Function.

Role accountabilities:

Specifically, the tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Provide technical research and analysis support on program-related, sustainability subject-matter issues, primarily on Nature & Biodiversity.
  • Support the development of training content and thought leadership.
  • Drive the realization of leading sustainability outcomes for major lighthouse projects through technical leadership, strong consensus building, and relationship management.
  • Collaborate and support in-business stakeholders to leverage commercial opportunities generated from the program.
  • Prepare regular reports and updates on program status for management and stakeholders, in coordination with the Global Sustainability PMO.
  • Support in the creation of talks, presentations, etc. for public engagements.
  • Identify strategic sustainable opportunities and improvements, survey (industry and beyond) stakeholders and advise on opportunities for business operations and global policy development.
  • Support, as required, relevant non-financial reporting work and/or topics such as CSRD, CSDDD, and others.
  • Lead technical projects from inception to completion, ensuring all objectives are met within the specified timeline. 
  • Stay current with industry trends, requirements, and emerging technologies, evaluating their potential impact on our strategies.
  • Mentor and train more junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Provide specialized technical expertise and guidance to team members, supporting them in overcoming technical challenges.
  • Benchmark against current best practices and communicate the areas and levers of influence.
  • Ad-hoc support on bids with sustainability responses to client requests may be required.

Key Shared Accountabilities: 

  • Motivate, inspire, and help drive team results, reviewing performance and providing timely feedback to team members and counterparts.
  • Support preparation of regular reports and updates on program status for management and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with global (technical) discipline leads and colleagues across the globe as needed to achieve program objectives.
  • Collaborate with Global Sustainability program Directors and team members to support Global Sustainability team objectives outside of the program you are part of, which may include contributing to various training initiatives, sustainability ratings agency responses, and the annual integrated report, among other activities.
  • Support identification and collaborate with stakeholders to meet program requirements and goals. Discuss and report risks to delivery for actions and proactively implement solutions.
  • Support development of tools and solutions that enable Arcadis to measure and improve sustainability results. Support the team with the continuous improvement of our methodologies, tools, reports and systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement innovative technical improvements that meet business requirements.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nature & Biodiversity-related fields. A master's degree is desirable.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with Sustainability programs.
  • Knowledge of biodiversity impact assessments, ecological surveys, GIS tools and spatial analysis for mapping biodiversity data, and ecological restoration techniques is desirable.
  • Knowledge of international nature and biodiversity frameworks, tools, and protocols (Task Force on Nature-Related Financial Disclosure-TNFD, Natural Capital Protocol, Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool-IBAT, Key Biodiversity Areas-KBA Standards, and others).
  • Familiarity with corporate sustainability requirements, targets, and strategies is important (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive-CSRD).
  • Strong ability to work effectively with global teams and build connections.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking, with both a consultive and implementation-oriented approach.
  • Proven experience with data analysis, research, and report writing.
  • Project management capabilities to track internal projects and partner with the team PMO.
  • Given the international scale and scope of the business, a certain level of flexibility in work hours is important.

The total compensation range for this position is $89,600 to $112,000. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
