Get to Know the Opportunity:

The Sr. Tax Analyst is responsible for specific tasks relating to compliance with federal and state tax rules associated with tax reporting and withholding on distributions from and contributions to retirement plans and products including 401(a), 401(k), 403(b), Governmental and non-governmental 457(b) plans and Traditional, Roth, SEP and Simple IRAs.  Able to interpret and explain rules associated with the calculation and application of federal and state tax withholding.  The role may include broad responsibilities or require a more narrow focus, such as developing expertise in the taxation of distributions from Puerto Rico qualified plans. withholding and reporting for Non-Resident Aliens, or other specific tax areas. The Sr. Tax Analyst may be responsible for training less experienced associates and running complex tax processes with managerial oversight.

The Contributions You'll Make:

  • Monitor and communicate legislative and regulatory developments impacting tax withholding and reporting

  • Update existing Tax reporting and withholding Policies and Procedures and identify opportunities for new Policies and Procedures

  • Support internal customers with accurate and timely responses to inquiries

  • Provide periodic feedback on inquiry activity and emerging trends

  • Identify and implement process improvement ideas to increase efficiency and reduce risk

  • Provide technical expertise for the development of internal training materials and external communications

  • Provide accurate and timely Procedure reviews for internal partners

  • Provide accurate distribution forms review and guidance

  • Provide Tax reporting and withholding guidance for various Products, such as Qualified Plans, Non-Qualified Plans, IRAs, Non-Qualified Annuities, Puerto Rico Qualified Plans, Employee Benefits including Life Insurance

  • Support both team projects and enterprise-wide projects that have tax components

  • Actively participate in industry groups such as ACLI

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including development of standard work and constructive participation in huddles, root cause problem solving, process confirmations and coaching sessions

  • Functional knowledge of performing and completing state filings and federal filings, including quarterly reconciliations and federal tax returns, including 945, 941 and 1042. 

  • Functional knowledge of responding to and maintaining compliance for federal tax notices, including Notice CP2100 and Notice 972-CG. 

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with all employee and management levels, in order to clearly communicate tax policies and guidance, ensure mutual understanding and provide education.

Minimum Knowledge & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field (e.g., Business, Economics)

  • 5 or more years’ experience with 401(a)/(k), 403(b), Governmental 457(b). Non-governmental 457(b), and 409A plans’ Traditional, Roth, SEP and SIMPLE IRAs; Non-Qualified Annuities;  Employee Benefits, with emphasis on tax withholding and reporting requirements. 

  • Experience with Forms 1099-R, W-2, 1042-S, 5498, 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC and the associated federal and state withholding rules relating to distributions from retirement plans and products

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret tax laws and regulations and determine impact on both the Tax team and the enterprise organization

  • Ability to write memos, procedures and other correspondence

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and business units

  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner

  • Willingness to make decisions, support and explain reasoning for decision and include appropriate individuals in decision-making process

  • Reacts well under pressure, treats others with respect, accepts responsibilities for own actions and follows through on commitments

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel

  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, looks for ways to improve and promote quality

  • Volunteers readily, undertakes self-development activities, seeks increased responsibilities, asks for and offers help when needed

  • Desired: Experience responding to tax reporting and withholding questions from a shared e-mail box.

  • Desired: Familiarity with Puerto Rico Form 480.7C and the associated Puerto Rico withholding requirements.

Compensation Pay Disclosure:

Voya is committed to pay that’s fair and equitable, which means comparable pay for comparable roles and responsibilities.

The below annual base salary range reflects the expected hiring range(s) for this position in the location(s) listed. In addition to base salary, Voya offers incentive opportunities (i.e., annual cash incentives, sales incentives, and/or long-term incentives) based on the role to reward the achievement of annual performance objectives. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Voya Financial is willing to pay at the time of this posting.

Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted salary range based upon the candidate’s geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

$92,690 - $115,860 USD
