WHEN & WHERE YOU’LL WORK:
Remote: This position is fully remote and open to candidates within the United States. Equipment for the role will be provided and training will occur virtually. A schedule that overlaps with standard working hours 8:00 am - 4:00 pm PT is preferred.
A DAY IN THE LIFE:
The Senior Researcher of Population Insights is responsible for designing and executing programs of research that foster a deep understanding of the customer populations Tandem serves. The person filling this role develops innovative research projects and elegant study designs to answer critical business questions. They analyze both quantitative and qualitative data and are skilled at using data to tell compelling stories. Work products include customer segmentation, customer profiles, and actionable descriptions of unmet needs by customer segment. The Sr Researcher of Population Insights builds relationships with cross-functional stakeholders, including Strategy, Product Management, Product Marketing, the International Business team, and Data Sciences. The Sr Manager of Population Insights may work closely with market research vendors, serving as the internal SME and/or owner of research projects. The role functions as part of Tandem’s Design Research Team, and reports to the Sr Manager of Population Insights.
The Senior Researcher of Population Insights at Tandem also:
- Leads and works closely with cross-functional teams to identify business objectives; translates business objectives into research questions and creatively shapes research projects.
- Designs sophisticated studies, with a particular focus on quantitative research, including large N market surveys that yield data for market segmentation, and product preferences studies/conjoints.
- Collaborates on quantitative plans of analyses with internal Data Sciences team and/or vendor partners.
- Analyzes quantitative and qualitative output as needed.
- Communicates quantitative and qualitative data and user insights to various stakeholders in the organization.
- Assists in creating and maintaining user personas, user journey maps, and other user-centered design artifacts.
- Stays abreast of current technologies with the ability to speak fluently about the diabetes domain.
- Stays abreast of innovations in research methodologies with the ability to apply methodological innovation toward research projects at Tandem.
- Stays abreast of the scientific literature relevant to human health behavior and diabetes research.
- Operates flexibly and creatively while designing research within pressurized or constrained environments (e.g., due to time, budget).
- Leads with a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens in approach to researching, understanding, defining, and meeting the needs of Tandem customers and potential Tandem customers.
- Ensures compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, and other legal and regulatory requirements.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Master’s degree in public health/epidemiology, the social sciences, or a related area
- 5 or more years of experience conducting behavioral and/or social sciences research.
- 2 or more years of experience conducting market or user research in industry or government.
- Excellent methodologist, able to identify and apply the right method to the problem space under investigation
- Strong background in quantitative social science research
- Excellence in survey design, survey data analysis, and psychometrics
- Experience in market research methods such as conjoint, or experimental approaches
- Excellence in systems thinking and critical thinking
- Excellence in translating research into accessible and actionable insights for business consumption
- Excellence in presenting to a variety of audiences
- Excellent time and project management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with tools to conduct studies (e.g., User Testing; MUIQ) and analyze data (e.g., R; NVivo)
- Experience conducting both patient- and healthcare provider-facing research strongly preferred
- Experience conducting research with diverse populations
- Acts as a market research champion and the voice of the patient/healthcare provider across the organization
- Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for effective reporting and presentation
EXTRA AWESOME:
- Doctorate degree in public health/epidemiology, the social sciences, or a related area strongly preferred
- 2 or more years of healthcare or medical device industry experience strongly preferred.
- Location is remote in US, with Pacific time zone strongly preferred
- Background in mixed-methods social science research strongly preferred

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
The starting base pay range for this position is $144,600-175,000 annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus, equity, and a robust benefits package.
Tandem offers health care benefits such as medical, dental, vision available your first day, as well as health savings accounts and flexible saving accounts. You’ll also receive 11 paid holidays per year, a minimum of 20 days of paid time off (with accrual starting on day 1) and you will have access to a 401k plan with company match as well as an Employee Stock Purchase plan.
