Opportunity:


Virtual Service Operations is searching for a Sr. Linux System Administrator to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will perform administration and maintenance activities on over 8,000 Linux servers. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, not afraid to undertake and lead a project from beginning to end, and is accompanied with broad technical exposure.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide escalation support from subordinates and junior resources, including on-call rotation support.
  • Mentor and direct junior staff in the course of daily assignments and projects to promote a collaborative learning environment.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, virtualization, Operating System, configuration (services, file systems, etc.) and software problems with Rocky Linux servers.  (RHEL, CentOS knowledge is also applicable).
  • Ensure proper planning and execution of major projects and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) activities.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures for server builds, configurations, and scheduled maintenance activities.
  • Provide suggestions and best practices for various activities and communicate them to stakeholders at various technical levels.
  • Perform storage expansion, migration, and reclamations on block storage from SAN, familiarity with boot-from-SAN for Linux operating systems is preferred.
  • Perform detailed analysis of incidents - utilize log management tools and performance data to author and submit Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports following service outages.
  • Perform cyber-security remediation and server hardening as tasked per established configuration baselines (i.e. client-specific DISA STIG implementations).
  • Leverage Ansible and shell scripts to configure and monitor Linux hosts the environment.
  • Work on assigned change requests, incidents and service catalog tickets.
  • Investigate and respond to alerts generated by the various monitoring systems in use at Client.
  • Perform hardware repair procedures and activities.
  • Evaluate and implement potential new tools and technologies. 


Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with Tomcat, Apache, JBoss, Oracle, and MySQL. 
  • Experience with Cisco UCS.
  • Experience with Ansible.
  • Experience with Foreman / Katello.
  • Experience with Puppet.
  • Experience with VMWare.
  • Experience with Windows Server.

Requirements

  • 7 - 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be located in the USA.
  • Must be willing and able to undergo a government Public Trust (SF-85) background investigation.
