The Opportunity...

As the Sr. Director of UX and Customer Research at Commvault, you will lead the vision and execution of all user experience (UX) and customer research initiatives, overseeing product design, ethnographic research, and the development of a world-class usability lab. This leadership role requires a strategic thinker who can combine customer insights with design innovation to deliver an exceptional user experience across our product suite. The ideal candidate will be an analytical leader with a proven track record in technology, user research, and design, possessing a deep understanding of UX methodologies, tools, and best practices. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

What you'll do...

  • UX Design Leadership: Lead and develop the UX strategy for Commvault's products, ensuring intuitive, customer-centered design that aligns with our product vision and enhances customer satisfaction.
  • Customer Research & Ethnography: Spearhead customer research initiatives, including ethnographic studies, to gain insights into customer needs, pain points, and behaviors. Translate these insights into actionable recommendations for product development.
  • Usability Testing & Lab Setup: Establish a state-of-the-art usability lab to conduct in-depth usability testing. Oversee the testing process, gathering feedback on products to drive continuous improvement in the user experience.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Customer Support teams to integrate UX principles throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Platform Expertise & Tools: Leverage advanced UX tools and platforms (e.g., Figma, Sketch, InVision, UserTesting, Hotjar, etc.) to analyze user behavior, prototype designs, and iterate based on feedback.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Use quantitative and qualitative data to make informed design decisions, including A/B testing, analytics, and user surveys to validate design concepts.
  • Metrics Development & Management: Establish key UX metrics (e.g., usability scores, task completion rates, customer satisfaction) to measure the success of UX initiatives and continuously refine and optimize the customer experience.
  • Continuous UX Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in the current user experience, providing actionable insights to enhance existing products and deliver a more seamless user journey.
  • Team Management & Development: Build, mentor, and lead a team of UX designers, researchers, and usability specialists. Foster a collaborative environment that promotes innovation and growth.
  • Customer-Centric Culture: Advocate for a user-centered approach across the organization, ensuring the voice of the customer is at the heart of all design and product decisions.

Who you are...

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Design, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in UX/UI design, user research, or customer experience roles, preferably in the tech industry. 3+ years in a leadership role managing design and research teams.
  • Analytical Mindset: Strong ability to analyze data and translate customer insights into actionable design strategies. Experience with platforms like UserTesting, Qualtrics, and Google Analytics is a plus.
  • Tech Experience: Experience working in the software or tech industry, with a deep understanding of technical constraints and opportunities in design and UX.
  • Platform & Tool Proficiency: Expertise with industry-standard UX and prototyping tools (Figma, Sketch, InVision) as well as research and testing platforms (e.g., Hotjar, UserZoom, Optimal Workshop).
  • Usability Testing Experience: Strong background in usability testing, A/B testing, and setting up processes for user feedback collection.
  • Metrics-Driven: Experience in establishing, tracking, and managing UX metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex design concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage stakeholders at various levels across the organization.

Thank you for your interest in Commvault. Total compensation for this role is market competitive, and within the below base salary range:

$192,100 - $310,500
