Job Description

The Sr. Director, US Preclinical Alzheimer’s Disease Advocacy & Strategy individual will serve as the center of excellence for developing, leading & driving the relationships & strategies on behalf of the organization with primary care organizations to build & promote brain health.

This individual will be responsible for helping to build a new disease state, as part of our initiative. You work across development, medical, commercial and corporate affairs to lead the identification and delivery of solutions that meet the needs of patients and their caregivers, healthcare professionals, and health systems. This role will be the lead with consumer, patient and professional medical association partnerships for Neurology area. Given the external nature of the role, you will ensure a high standard for Lilly engagement, reputational leadership, and integrity with community partners.

The ideal candidate for this job will have:

  • Experience on a biotech/pharma team – bringing two or more therapies to the US market in different disease states
  • A consistent track record of strategically building relationships with external organizations, which includes patient advocacy groups, professional societies, think tanks, and/or employer groups, to advance business objectives
  • A strong understanding of bringing a product to market, including the tactics and interventions vital to change perceptions and pathways to build a new disease state
  • Ability to recognize challenges and identify innovative approaches to address them
  • The position will report the Associate Vice President, Neuroscience Advocacy & Strategy leader and will be a member of the Neuroscience Business Unit Corporate Affairs team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Working in collaboration with Development, Medical Affairs, Commercial, Public Policy, and Government Affairs, to develop and implement the integrated advocacy plan to address the following preclinical Alzheimer’s disease pivotal initiatives:
  • Driving recognition of preclinical AD
  • Driving the availability, access, and adoption of validated and approved diagnostic tools in preclinical AD
  • Advancing the value proposition for preclinical AD therapeutical care
  • Partner with other corporate affairs team members to deliver a coordinated strategy for Neuroscience efforts for Lilly
  • Understanding the mission and vision of each group to effectively catalyze collaboration with internal teams toward a shared goal
  • Offering expert counsel and mentoring to internal partners where community perspective and engagement are critical factors for their success
  • Seeing opportunities to build & manage partnerships, memberships and sponsorships that are implemented and commitments are fulfilled compliantly
  • Work with Legal and Compliance functions to outline appropriate guardrails related to engaging and influencing the external environment

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

Additional Preferences

  • 10+ years of external relationship management (with nonprofit groups) and well-established contacts in the overall community
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, as well as interpersonal
  • Expertise and proven record working in the external environment to advance goals
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams across a matrixed organization. Ability to establish strong working relationships across business unit and enterprise teams.
  • Understanding of non-profit organizations, independence and ability to operate with limited resources
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others and lead without authority
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to lead strategy projects, engage others and translate strategy into implementation tactics and capabilities.
  • Strong executive presence and experience representing teams before senior leadership
  • Strong internal and external problem solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively and share information within a remote, team environment
  • Flex to support other areas of the team, as needed

Other

  • Travel anticipated <30% from home depending on conferences and engaging with community partners
  • Domestic and some international travel required
  • Occasional weekend travel
  • As customers are in disbursed locations, remote work is possible, but candidate should be open to travel to Indy for business-critical meetings.

Lilly currently anticipates that the base salary for this position could range from between $162,000 to $237,600 and will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s qualifications for the role, including education and experience. Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance). In addition, Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees, including eligibility to participate in a company-sponsored 401(k); pension; vacation benefits; eligibility for medical, dental, vision and prescription drug benefits; flexible benefits (e.g., healthcare and/or dependent day care flexible spending accounts); life insurance and death benefits; certain time off and leave of absence benefits; and well-being benefits (e.g., employee assistance program, fitness benefits, and employee clubs and activities).  Of course, the compensation described above is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described above.  Further, Lilly reserves the right to amend, modify, or terminate its compensation and benefit programs in its sole discretion and Lilly’s compensation practices and guidelines will apply regarding the details of any promotion or transfer of Lilly employees.
