WHEN & WHERE YOU’LL WORK:
This position will require you to come into the corporate headquarters in San Diego, CA office on an as needed based on business demands. Tandem will provide equipment for you to work remotely when not in office.
A DAY IN THE LIFE:
This role is responsible for developing, modifying, and supporting automated tooling and infrastructure. The Software Tools Engineer II works with embedded, mobile, web, and end-to-end teams to ensure our systems are scalable, maintainable, and testable. This position includes maintaining test infrastructure, identifying process improvements, creating technical documentation, and diagnosing tooling defects.
Software Tools Engineer II s at Tandem are also responsible for:
- Develop, modify, support, and test automated tooling.
- Maintain and support infrastructure.
- Stay up to date with current development tools, techniques, and standards.
- Identify opportunities in software processes and create proposals for improvements.
- Create and update documentation, including specification, interface descriptions, and others.
- Use tools such as IntelliJ IDEA, Visual Studio Code, Git, JIRA, and Confluence to plan, coordinate, and manage your work.
- Responsible for training, mentoring, and development of junior team members.
- Diagnose, replicate, and address tooling or infrastructure defects.
- Ensures compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, and other legal and regulatory requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Sciences or related field or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience.
- 2+ years’ experience in the field of automation software or in a related area.
- Proficiency with at least one embedded, mobile, or cloud-based programming language, preferably JavaScript or Typescript.
- Proficient with formal software test methodologies.
- Proficiency with at least one common tooling framework.
- Ability to work independently and deliver high quality work without close supervision.
- Able to effectively convey information related to work product.
- Knowledge of Good Documentation Practices (GDocP) preferred.
- Experience with software development life cycle for medical device preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, see, talk or hear in a standard office environment. Employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
The starting base pay range for this position is $87,300.00 - $109,000.00 annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus, equity, and a robust benefits package.
Tandem offers health care benefits such as medical, dental, vision available your first day, as well as health savings accounts and flexible saving accounts. You’ll also receive 11 paid holidays per year, a minimum of 20 days of paid time off (with accrual starting on day 1) and you will have access to a 401k plan with company match as well as an Employee Stock Purchase plan.
