Role Responsibilities

As the Senior Privacy Advisor, you will report to the Manager of Privacy Services. You will contribute to compliance with the legislated and policy requirements of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act. You will work as a member of the team responding to privacy advice questions, privacy breach investigations, and privacy risk assessments completed under Part 2 of the FOIP Act. 

 

Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Collaborating and providing direction to ministry staff and external stakeholders concerning the proper collection, use, disclosure, security, and retention of personal information undertaken by the ministry so that security and confidentiality measures comply with the privacy and security provisions of the FOIP Act.
  • Assisting the Manager in the liaison and negotiation with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner in response to reviews, investigations, inquiries, privacy breaches, and Privacy Impact Assessments.
  • Developing and supporting the delivery of training sessions; other resource and communication materials to promote awareness and understanding of the FOIP Act.
  • Providing mentorship and coaching as required to junior staff.

Qualifications

 

Required:

  • A related university degree (e.g., Business Administration, Political Science, Public Administration and Law), supplemented by at least four (4) years of related experience. Equivalencies may be considered.
  • Applications without cover letters demonstrating how your skills and experience relate to the role will not be considered. Your cover letter will be used to assess your writing style and expertise in written communication.
  • Extensive knowledge of privacy legislation.

 

Assets:

  • Experience in privacy specific roles.
  • Familiarity with records management, privacy and security concepts and principles.
  • Experience developing and delivering training sessions.
  • Excellent investigation and research skills.


Equivalencies are:
A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; or a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience.

Notes

This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).

Testing will be administered as part of our assessment process.


While this position is eligible for remote work, the successful candidate must reside in Alberta to work remotely.


Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.
