You will work in a fast-paced and diverse environment, enjoy flexible work arrangements, and will have a management team that encourages your career development and growth.  This Senior Instructional Systems Designer position will support the Acquisition Career Management Division (AAP-300) team on the National Airspace System (NAS) Integration Support Contract (NISC) with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Primary Responsibilities

  • The Senior Instructional Designer will update and create training courses and supporting materials for use by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). While working closely with FAA stakeholders, subject matter experts, instructors, multimedia developers, and other instructional designers, this candidate will conceptualize, develop, implement, and evaluate instructor-led and eLearning training programs and course materials. The candidate must have experience in federal government or large organization course design and development and knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design methodologies.

  • Execute all facets of the training development life cycle for various training types, including instructor-led courses, web-based and online training, blended learning, micro-learning, and performance support using current instructional design methodologies, innovation, and best practices in learning and development.

  • Select and design innovative instructional and learning strategies and associated technologies to optimize learning and achieve learning objectives.

  • Develop, execute, and test training courses and performance support products.

  • Perform quality assurance and quality control activities, including SME reviews, design reviews, course pilots, and retrospectives.

  • Create and conduct training evaluations, both formative and summative, across all levels for maximum impact

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Instructional Design, Adult Education, or similar concentration with 8-12 years of experience, or Master’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience.

  • In-depth experience with adult learning theory, learner-centric curriculum development, and instructional design project management.

  • Experience designing instructor-led training for the classroom, webinar, and blended learning training delivery formats for the federal government or large organizations.

  • Ability to establish effective terminal and enabling learning objectives and develop appropriate assessment instruments and content to support them.

  • Ability to formulate innovative and engaging learning activities and compelling content that enhances content retention and transfer in synchronous and asynchronous courseware.

  • Experience effectively and efficiently converting in-person instructor-led training to virtual ILT or computer-based training modules.

  • Experience creating facilitator guides, participant guides, and reference handouts 

  • Experience creating and editing graphics and visuals for instructional material

  • Familiarity with identifying requirements for appropriate instructional graphics that align with the user interface and improve the learning experience.

  • Experience designing adult training that meets federal Section 508 compliance regulations and guidelines.

  • Proven ability to review and analyze training materials and recommend changes based on the type and depth of required instruction.

  • Knowledge of standard project management skills and techniques to ensure effective controls while handling multiple training development activities.

  • Demonstrated ability to outline and communicate project requirements, concerns, and solutions in support of strict deadlines.

  • History of productive working relationships with subject matter experts in capturing the client’s training needs and advising them on the right learning solution to help them accomplish their mission.

  • Excellent organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail.

  • Must be flexible and able to deal with various personalities.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills to facilitate discussion and collaboration with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) instructional designers, subject matter experts, multimedia developers, and stakeholders.

  • Experience mentoring junior developers in creating computer-based training, instructor-led training, and instructional design principles.

  • Experience with the following software suites: Articulate 360, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Cloud (including Photoshop and Illustrator), Audacity, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, SharePoint, Microsoft Office, and SnagIt.

  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain Public Trust security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Instructional Design, Adult Education, or similar concentration.

  • Previous in-person and virtual instructor-led training experience.

  • Success in designing and implementing federal instructor-led or computer-based training courses.

  • Experience creating content and assessments in Learning Management Systems (LMS).

  • Experience in designing adult learning for FAA acquisition workforce-related topics, including the FAA Acquisition Management System (AMS), and real estate training for the 1170s.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $78,000.00 - $141,000.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
