What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role Amgen is searching for a Senior Counsel, Patent -- Biotech Manufacturing in our Intellectual Property and Litigation group. The successful candidate will be based at our main corporate campus in Thousand Oaks, CA or at our site in Cambridge, MA.
The successful candidate will develop, implement, and execute a global intellectual property strategy for Amgen’s Operations and Process Development organizations. These areas include large molecule manufacturing in Amgen’s biologics pipeline and in-line products. Areas of focus preferably relate to biologics manufacturing expertise including cell science, purification, analytics, fill finish, and automation processes related to our business.
Responsibilities
Working closely with Amgen engineers and scientists to identify patentable subject matter;
Drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications worldwide
Conducting prior art searches
Analyzing patents and preparing freedom-to-operate opinions
Conducting due diligence in support of licensing activities
Negotiating and drafting research agreements; analyzing trademark and copyright issues;
Providing legal advice and counsel to business personnel on a variety of IP related matters
Assisting with litigation-related matters and challenging/defending patents in PTAB, opposition, and other forums.

Basic Qualifications:
J.D. degree or LL.M. degree from an accredited law school, admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction and four years of experience practicing intellectual property law,
And
Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ten or more years of experience practicing patent or intellectual property law.
Experience in all aspects of U.S. and foreign intellectual property law relating to biotechnology at a law firm or biotechnology/pharmaceutical corporation.
Degree in chemical engineering, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, or chemistry.
Experience in identifying and filing patent applications related to biologics manufacturing technologies, including cell science, purification, analytics, fill finish, and automation
Excellent analytic, legal drafting and oral and written communication skills
Strong management and leadership skills as well as a strong client service focus and the ability to work independently and in teams; ability to work efficiently, to prioritize workflow, to meet demanding deadlines, and to manage multi-dimensional projects in a fast-paced environment

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
