Description

Reporting into the Journals Programme Lead, the role is responsible for the operational and strategic delivery of Emerald’s Cases journals, focusing on increasing output, impact, and where appropriate, alignment to the SDGs and Emerald Goals.

In addition to line management of one colleague, the role works closely with the Product, Content Solutions and Marketing teams and is a member of the Cases Business Partner group, ensuring company-wide awareness of new and existing cases, competitions and partner relationships, and to help optimise sales, usage and reach for the Cases product portfolio.

There will also be opportunities to be involved in department or wider business-led project work.

Location: We perform at our best when we feel trusted and are able to choose an approach to working that suits us best, which is why we are a remote-first company. However, we also believe in face to face collaboration, and our UK colleagues meet once a month for team time and quarterly for company get togethers in our Leeds office, so we ask that you be within a commutable distance that you are comfortable with in order to attend the office on those occasions.

Day to day you'll be responsible for: 

  • Strategic Development: Drive the growth of the Cases product portfolio, aligning with SDGs/Emerald Goals to attract global authors, users, and purchasers.
  • Editorial Oversight: Regularly review Editorial Boards to support the content strategy and align with relevant domains.
  • Community Engagement: Develop and execute a community engagement plan, focusing on priority events and outreach activities.
  • Competition Management: Oversee the cases competitions program, including promotion, judging, and award presentations.
  • Team Management: Ensure effective management of the EMCS/TCJ journal editorial team and contributions to the Insight and Cases Learning Hub.
  • Partnerships and Licensing: Identify and negotiate new partner agreements and content licensing opportunities.
  • Performance Monitoring: Achieve key performance indicators for a smooth and timely publication process.
  • Learning Hub Development: Collaborate with the Cases Business Partner group to enhance the Learning Hub.
  • Coaching and Mentorship: Coach less experienced team members in portfolio and editor relationship management.
  • Content Innovation: Support the creation of new content forms (podcasts, blogs, case studies, etc.) to drive real-world impact.
  • Budget Management: Oversee the effective management of the Cases budget.
  • Line Management: Provide effective line management for the Cases Commissioning Assistant.
  • Research and Development: Research and develop projects focused on Emerald Goals and target institutions.

You’ll need to have:   

Skills:
  • Effective Communicator: Excellent written, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Analytical Thinker: Strong problem-solving, analytical, and strategic skills.
  • Relationship Builder: Skilled in stakeholder management and relationship development.
  • Commissioning and Business Development: Proficient in commissioning and identifying business opportunities.
Knowledge:
  • Emerald Products: Familiarity with Emerald’s product portfolio and systems (e.g., Power BI, Cognos, CRM, ScholarOne, SCOPUS, Dimensions).
  • Publishing Expertise: In-depth knowledge of publishing practices, ethics, and the academic publishing environment.
  • Content Licensing: Knowledge of content licensing and copyright.
