The Business Intelligence function provides the means, methods, and solutions necessary to support the efficient collection, storage, transfer, manipulation, analysis, and reporting of data, as well as the delivery of information for use by decision-makers. The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer is responsible for multiple aspects of data management and operations, including database design, business intelligence and data architecture, data analytics, governance, and quality. This role specializes in data architecture for reporting services and design expertise in data warehouses, data lakes, data marts, and business intelligence (BI) enterprise reporting. This position demands an advanced level of contribution based on knowledge, application, problem-solving, and collaboration. A Senior Business Intelligence Engineer possesses sufficient experience to collaborate with business partners and stakeholders, understanding business needs and processes, and transforming those discussions into design and code.

Outcomes and Activities:

  • This position will work from home; occasional planned travel to an assigned Southfield, Michigan office location may be required.  However, this position is permitted to work at a Southfield, Michigan office location if requested by the team member.
  • Identify ways to increase the use of BI within the firm, designing end-to-end BI solutions that provide insights and information for key decision-makers.
  • Design, code, test, and deliver insightful and architecturally sound business solutions around high complexity work.
  • Experiment and test ideas, validate assumptions against needs, reach conclusion and recommend solutions.
  • Consistently improve the quality and structure of the previously written code to make it more efficient.
  • Document code and projects so others can easily understand, maintain, and support.
  • Conduct impact analysis to proactively identify impact of a change across multiple systems.
  • Advocate best design principles and patterns within the team.
  • Author, apply and advocate for team coding, documenting, and testing standards and drive continued improvements.
  • Read, write, and review design documents.
  • Decrease incidents and increase up-time by developing quality code and testing.
  • Actively participate in developer COE discussions towards continuous improvement of design and code quality.
  • Communicate application changes clearly, concisely, and objectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Lead continuous learning activities to improve design and code quality as well as to increase application domain knowledge.
  • Learn the business process domain to better support the business.
  • Lead code reviews and communicate application changes.
  • Guide and review the code, designs, and documentation of less experienced engineers.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Debug the problems which arise in production and propose effective solutions.
  • Contribute to team's sprint commitments and actively participate in our Agile practices.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or closely related field of study; or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 7 years of practical experience in data modeling & design and database management or comparable depth of experience
  • Practical experience with and strong understanding of data modeling, data quality, messaging, and data governance practices
  • Practical experience with and strong understanding of Oracle databases, AWS, SQL, Oracle PL/SQL, Power BI / OBIEE / OAC, Data Lakes and Data Warehouses, ETL
  • Experience working on mission-critical enterprise class applications
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor less experienced team members
  • Practical experience in Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation
  • Must be able to work independently with flexibility and authority over daily work priorities.
  • Must be able to collaborate with others to direct and complete assigned work.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Databricks, PySpark / Python / Scala; cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure; modern data engineering tools such as Airflow or DBT
  • Experience in the lead role overseeing technical direction of a team of engineering talent
  • Ability to fully design and manage databases and use syntax to expedite results, advanced queries and convert data across incompatible interfaces
  • Experience as a data engineer embedded in a team in an Agile SCRUM and DevOps delivery environment
  • Advanced understanding of IDEs, have the ability to navigate through them quickly and leverage advanced features to improve your performance
  • Experience with JSON, Rest/SOAP based Web Services, JUnit, Jenkins and Bitbucket
  • Experience in API security, analytics, throttling, caching, logging, request, and response modifications
  • Ability to use DDL to create database objects and relationships, construct advanced queries, and optimize query performance
  • Financial services industry experience

  • Ability to communicate complex technical information (both verbal and written) to all levels, including senior leadership

Target Compensation: A competitive base salary range from $108,766 - $159,523.  This position is eligible for an annual variable cash bonus, between 7.5 - 15%. Final compensation within the range is influenced by many factors including role-specific skills, depth and experience level, industry background, relevant education and certifications. 

 

Candidates who reside in the following major metropolitan areas may be eligible for a premium on top of the posted range based on their specific zone: San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, New York City, Los Angeles and San Diego.
