Function:

Working closely with the Director of Education and Training Programs and under the supervision of the Associate Director, the Project Manager will provide operational oversight of the CDC-funded ‘Doxycycline Post-Exposure Prophylaxis Implementation Study’, and will oversee program activities; manage, develop, and deliver training and technical assistance; build and maintain collaborations with UAB, the CDC, and subject matter experts; and ensure all aspects of the work plan are completed. 

Project Description

To address rising rates of bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the US, we will conduct a Hybrid III stepped wedge cluster randomized trial to increase health equity and STI prevention impact of doxyPEP via a provider education implementation strategy. In collaboration with the University of Alabama at Birmingham STI Impact Research Group (UAB STIR), the primary objectives for this project are to:

1. Implement provision and assure use of doxyPEP by gay, bisexual and other men who have sex

with men (GBMSM) and transgender/nonbinary (TG/NB) people for STI prevention;

2. Assess eligibility for, and provide as indicated, vaccination against STIs (e.g., Mpox, Hepatitis

A and B, MenACWY, and Human Papillomavirus [HPV] vaccines).

3. To coordinate the educational intervention that will train primary care providers in the provision of doxyPEP to patients at risk for STI in Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Ohio, and Washington, DC.


Representative Duties: 


Manages Grant 

  • Initiates and sets goals for the doxyPEP study according to strategic objectives of the grant and ensures that all program       requirements are met
  • Plans and manages the work plan comprised of multiple complex components; ensures adherence to timeline through persistent incorporation of work plan into regular meetings and ongoing electronic communication 
  • Creates, updates, and monitors yearly budget; oversees program contracts and invoices to ensure appropriate use of program funds and timely payment of consultants
  • Writes and edits academic journal articles, toolkit materials, and education materials, etc.
  • Writes and submits reports to maintain CDC funding
  • Works closely with UAB and CDC staff on program plans and requirements; keeps principal investigator and CDC program officer informed with detailed and accurate updates and reports
  • Develops and implements ways to enhance efficiency and productivity of procedures and people

Designs and Implements Technical Assistance Activities

  • Manages the process of conducting formative interviews with providers, stratified by experience prescribing doxyPEP
  • Oversees the rapid qualitative analysis to identify multilevel barriers and facilitators of doxyPEP prescription
  • Manages the development and implementation of longitudinal, interactive, distance-learning models and assess the impact of a provider-level educational intervention on doxyPEP implementation and STI preventive vaccine uptake
  • Coordinates the implementation of the intervention with the participating Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) 
  • Assesses outcomes of implementing doxyPEP and increasing STI vaccine uptake in priority populations
  • Manages the technology needed to collaborate, develop training materials, and share materials across UAB, the CDC and the FQHCs

Supervises Assigned Staff

  • Oversees hiring, training, supervision, performance management, and professional development of assigned staff 
  • Ensures that staff receive a comprehensive program orientation
  • Ensures that staff receive sufficient training on the full range of their job responsibilities
  • Conducts regular performance evaluations and provides ongoing feedback and coaching
  • Makes employment-related decisions regarding assigned staff within the scope of defined authority as a manager following established agency and program guidelines
  • Oversees TFI and UAB teams to ensure jointly shared tasks are completed promptly, including oversight of scheduling meetings, editing documents, and posting shared files

  • Enhances current knowledge of STI intervention strategies and implementation by reading medical journals, articles and other publications, attending conferences, seminars, forums, trainings and other available presentations

Requirements

  

  • At least five years of project management experience 
  • At least two years of program evaluation experience 
  • At least two years of training or curriculum development experience 
  • At least two years of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, editing and presentation skills 
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Teams
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and follow through on projects in a timely fashion and handle multiple tasks 
  • Ability to work independently and in small groups
  • Ability to work harmoniously and effectively with colleagues, patients, clients and vendors across the spectrum of diversity, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, color, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status, national origin      and immigrant status, religious or spiritual identity, disability (physical, mental, emotional and developmental), veteran status, and/or limited English proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Advanced degree at masters level or higher in public health, public policy, education, medicine, social work or a related field
  • Demonstrated proficiency with REDCap survey software and statistical analysis programs (e.g., SPSS)
  • Familiarity with online tools for the delivery of training and technical assistance

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to meet the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodations:
