Project Geologist

Leidos is seeking a Project Geologist to support environmental projects at multiple office locations, including:  Reston, VA, Oak Ridge, TN, Twinsburg, OH, and Earth City, MO. 

This position requires the ability to pass background checks, obtain access to, and conduct work on, U.S. Government installations. Due to contract requirements; must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident. This is a remote position, with travel to customer sites as needed; anticipate up to 10% travel. Must possess a valid driver's license.

The successful candidate will support Project Managers with planning and execution of major work phases and tasks, including planning and execution of major work phases and tasks, developing project technical and data quality objectives, cost/budgeting/scheduling, subcontracting, management and logistics of field projects, and project technical deliverables. The candidate will plan field investigations and related environmental restoration tasks; prepare project work plans; prepare subcontractor scopes of work (e.g., drilling, surveying, waste management); schedule staff resources and direct field investigation task teams. The candidate will also perform data analysis and interpretation and lead or support project technical deliverables, including environmental investigation reports, feasibility studies, technical summaries and recommendations, technical and public presentation materials. Candidate will represent Leidos as Deputy Project Manager in client meetings, coordinate activities with Leidos and client staff, and interact with regulatory agencies and/or the public. Candidates may also support development of technical solutions and basis of estimates for environmental task order or competitive proposals.

Candidates will work independently with Leidos Project Managers and Senior Staff, supervise and mentor junior staff, and interface with multiple Leidos offices and subcontractors. Applicants should demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable working in a team environment with internal and external stakeholders. Strong organizational skills are essential.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead or support preparation of project governing documents:  project management plans, sampling and analysis plans, quality assurance project plans, health and safety plans, and waste management plans,
  • Coordinate and manage field investigation phases of work, including subcontractor statements of work (e.g., drilling services, surveying), procurement of materials and supplies for field investigations, coordinating and scheduling staff resources for field activities, and liaison with client mission operations.
  • Compile, interpret, and report geologic and environmental data under Federal (e.g. CERCLA, RCRA), state level, and/or client programs.
  • Prepare primary project technical reports, including technical analysis, conceptual site models, visual data presentations, maps, cross sections, and technical recommendations.
  • Comply with Leidos and client Environmental Compliance and Health & Safety programs.
  • Prepare meeting materials and participate in project planning meetings and technical workshops with clients and regulatory agencies, as well as public stakeholder meetings.
  • Mentorship and training of junior staff.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years' experience or a Master's degree and 2 years' experience.
  • Experience in planning, coordination, and execution of field operations for complex investigations at federal facilities, including multimedia environmental sampling, drilling and monitoring well installation, investigation waste management, site health and safety requirements.
  • Analysis and interpretation of chemical, geotechnical, geologic, and/or engineering data to address project/reporting requirements.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Willing and able to travel to project facilities/locations to attend client/stakeholder meetings, and coordinate/manage field programs with durations typically 2-4 weeks.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, PowerPoint).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Professional Geologist (PG) credential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of emerging PFAS technical guidance and investigations.
  • Prior completion of OSHA 1910.120 hazardous waste worker certification (40-hour HAZWOPER) and current OSHA 8-hour refresher.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $72,150.00 - $130,425.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
