Job Description

SUMMARY: K12 Tutoring is an exciting new startup within Stride’s portfolio of companies, focused on building and scaling an innovative educational platform that connects tutors and students. Our aim is to enable students to achieve their educational goals through receiving high-quality, personalized online tutoring from expert, certified teachers. Over time we plan to expand this platform further to serve a broader set of educational needs for a wider range of customers.   

 

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Product Owner to join our K12 Tutoring team and champion the success of our products. You will be instrumental in refining our product roadmap, supporting cross-functional product and engineering teams, and delivering innovative solutions that delight our users and achieve business objectives. As a Product Owner whose role incorporates some responsibilities of a Business Analyst, you will possess a blend of strategic vision, user empathy, and analytical prowess, enabling you to bridge the gap between business needs, technical possibilities, and user aspirations. This role reports to the Principal Product Manager, K12 Tutoring.

  • Support the team’s Product Manager in developing and maintaining a product roadmap and backlog, including gathering customer and stakeholder feedback, prioritizing planned and potential efforts and regularly communicating opportunities and progress against the plan.
  • Prioritize product features and initiatives based on their impact on users and the business.
  • Work closely with colleagues across product, engineering, design, research, operations, and marketing to translate product vision into actionable requirements.
  • Create and refine user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria.
  • Manage the product backlog, ensuring it is prioritized and refined based on changing needs and evolving market conditions.
  • Partner with Scrum teams to deliver high-quality features on time and within budget.
  • Partner with Product Manager and Scrum Master to facilitate sprint planning, grooming, demos, and retrospectives.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and measure the success of product initiatives.
  • Identify and mitigate risks and roadblocks throughout the development process
  • Gather and analyze user requirements, stakeholder feedback, and market data.
  • Define product specifications and ensure they are clear, concise, and measurable.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses and recommend solutions that maximize value for both users and the business.
  • Be the passionate voice of the user within the product team.
  • Partner with UX colleagues to conduct user research as needed, gathering feedback and translating it into product requirements.
  • Champion user-centric design principles and ensure product decisions are always informed by user needs.
  • Conduct initial triage into post-production defects to ensure that they are prioritized appropriately and sent to the relevant colleague(s) for investigation.
  • Conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) as needed to ensure that completed work meets business and user requirements.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Three (3) years of experience as a Product Owner and/or Business Analyst
  • Demonstrated proficiency in eliciting, analyzing and documenting product requirements
  • Experience providing strong product execution leadership for complex projects
  • Experience leading technology-based product management initiatives
  • Passionate and skilled in gathering and interpreting user perspective so that requirements and design reflect real needs
  • Experience collaborating with internal and external technology partners as well as non-technical stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, leadership, influence-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Previous success working with Agile software development teams (especially Scrum and/or Kanban)
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and development tools such as JIRA, Confluence
  • Experience with online collaboration tools such as O365, Google Docs, Miro, Figma, etc.
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency
  • Ability to travel 5% of the time
  • Ability to clear required background check 

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor's degree 
  • Experience in an education technology organization 
  • Experience with e-commerce application development

Compensation & Benefits: Stride, Inc. considers a person’s education, experience, and qualifications, as well as the position’s work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value when determining a new employee’s salary level.  Salaries will differ based on these factors, the position’s level and expected contribution, and the employee’s benefits elections.  Offers will typically be in the bottom half of the range.

We anticipate the salary range to be $66,379.50 to $170,037.60.  Eligible employees may receive a bonus.  This salary is not guaranteed, as an individual’s compensation can vary based on several factors.  These factors include, but are not limited to, geographic location, experience, training, education, and local market conditions. Stride offers a robust benefits package for eligible employees that can include health benefits, retirement contributions, and paid time off.
