The Product Manager for AI Strategy and STEM Learning plays a critical role in shaping the future of AI-powered educational products at Macmillan Learning. This role is responsible for developing and executing a strategic vision for artificial intelligence and data science applications within our STEM-focused learning solutions. This Product Manager works closely with cross-functional teams, including STEM Editorial, AI researchers, data scientists, UX designers, and engineers, to ensure the seamless integration of AI-driven capabilities into our products. This role leverages their expertise in AI, machine learning, and STEM education to enhance learning outcomes, personalization, and automation within the digital learning experience.

Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Product Discovery & Research
- Lead discovery efforts to identify and validate AI-powered solutions for STEM education, ensuring alignment with learner and educator needs
- Conduct market research, user interviews, and data analysis to assess the impact and feasibility of AI-driven learning tools
- Evaluate and prioritize emerging AI technologies and methodologies, determining how they can be applied effectively to enhance digital learning experiences
- Make data-informed recommendations based on insights from users, educators, and business stakeholders, helping to drive product vision and roadmap decisions
Backlog & Strategy Execution
- Own and maintain a well-structured AI/STEM-focused product backlog, ensuring clear prioritization and alignment with business objectives and user needs
- Synthesize and catalog feedback from users, internal teams, and market insights, ensuring AI product development efforts address key STEM learning challenges
- Evangelize the product backlog across cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with AI innovation goals and the overall product strategy
Competitive & Market Analysis
- Analyze the AI and STEM education landscape, identifying market trends, competitive positioning, and opportunities for differentiation
- Leverage system data, customer feedback, and AI-driven analytics to benchmark the adoption and usage of AI-powered learning tools
- Research and assess competitor strategies for AI integration, ensuring Macmillan Learning remains a leader in AI-driven STEM education
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with UX and Engineering to obtain early feedback on solutions and understand efforts and trade-offs
- Work closely with other Product Managers, STEM Editorial, UX designers, and Engineering teams to coordinate multi-team initiatives and establish development priorities
- Define product features and communicate requirements to UX designers and engineering teams via clearly-written requirement documents, diagrams, and concise verbal communication
- Track and drive cross-functional product rollout outside of the product development team (Product/UX/Engineering), including coordinating with Learning Science, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Experience teams to facilitate successful product use
Performance Measurement & Business Impact
- Assess, measure, and present the impact of their team’s work directly to stakeholders, quantifying the value of their progress, and evaluating or recommending possible courses of action
- Establish and maintain internal partner relationships aligned with evaluating viability and supporting implementation through launch efforts
- Monitor and assess key performance indicators (KPIs) for products/features, ensuring alignment with learner engagement and business growth
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree (Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related STEM field preferred)
- 3+ years’ experience designing and building new products and/or enhancing existing products
- 2+ years’ product management or business analyst experience
- Deep understanding of STEM education markets, including trends, challenges, and innovations in digital learning tools
- Understanding of key STEM learning methodologies (e.g., project-based learning, problem-solving frameworks, lab simulations, and interactive content) and how technology can enhance these experiences
- Knowledgeable across many functional areas: product management, UX, editorial, sales, customer support, finance, and marketing
- Experience effectively communicating complex information orally and in writing to a variety of stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
- Product management or product design experience with a focus on higher education
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance considerations in education, including accessibility and ethical AI considerations
- A passion for EdTech, teaching, or another role
- Product Management or Agile Scrum certification
- Solid product management experience with a track record of creating innovative software/mobile applications
- Programming or prototyping experience a plus, agile experience preferred
Salary Range: $89,000 - $115,000/year
Exemption Status: Exempt
The position is eligible for remote employment, excluding the following locations: Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wyoming.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to concentrate in busy, open office environment. Must be able to multi-task and maintain calm and focus under stressful situations. Must be able to travel occasionally
