Principal Software Engineer

The Red Hat OpenShift Autoscaling team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer with Computer Science background and experience in the Golang programming language to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will guide, develop, and coordinate work across OpenShift teams to improve Red Hat OpenShift and related technologies integration with Cloud Providers.  As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be a crucial part of our offerings' development and operation, improving the integration between the OpenShift platform and Cloud Providers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable, distributed solutions that enable Red Hat customers to be productive and efficient

  • Lead engineers in building implementations of new designs

  • Engage with open source communities to build consensus on goals in shared projects and implement features to achieve those goals

  • Investigate, communicate, and troubleshoot escalated issues coming from the support team

  • Collaborate with team members to determine the root cause of problems and the best course of action to resolve problems and avoid them in the future

  • Constantly learn new things and maintain an overview of current technologies

  • Take training and get to know cloud providers deeply

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of at least one big cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc)

  • Ability to conduct research into a wide range of computing issues as required

  • Experience in container technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English to handle or drive discussions in a distributed team

  • Solid experience with cloud computing, distributed web technologies, high availability, load balancing, failover, monitoring and alerting, shell scripting, CI/CD and build tools

  • Knowledge of Git, GitHub, JIRA, Jenkins, etcd, Prow, and Prometheus is a plus

  • Record of contributing to open source projects is a plus

The salary range for this position is $142,140.00 - $234,500.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.

Pay Transparency

Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
