The Windows Server engineering team is looking for a senior leader with a proven track record of delivering success with big challenges for products or services in the commercial enterprise space. This is an opportunity to have a huge impact on one of Microsoft’s most important businesses. Windows Server is the primary platform for Cloud services internally and externally, as well as having a deep history with 1st party and 3rd party ISVs (independent software vendors). With each release, comes complementary releases of Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, System Center and many more enterprise products. These products are crucial, fundamental pillars of how Microsoft fulfills its vision (below). Now is a transformative time for Windows Server, with the release of WS2025, the rise of AI, the paramount importance of security and reliability, and the demand for hybrid computing at the edge.


As a Principal Product Manager on the Windows Server team, you will define new business strategies and experiences for on-premises customers who are looking to modernize their infrastructure with hybrid solutions. You will make connections with Azure teams and build their success into seamless experiences in the product. A primary goal will be modernizing the Windows Server business by Arc connecting on-premises with Azure services. Windows Server 2025 allows customers to Pay-As-You-Go, an all-time first for WS. PayGo and Arc renaissance will be leveraged to add more value to these connected experiences. You will be central to this work. This opportunity will allow you to grow your career as a product leader across major organizations at Microsoft, including Windows, Windows Server, M365, Azure Arc and Azure Cloud Services (some of the biggest software companies in the world in their own right). This opportunity will grow your foundations in software engineering and business acumen. You will work closely with senior leadership, business planning and Marketing, as well as software engineering counterparts. You will grow your skills in evangelization and have direct impact on the world with the work you do every day. This job supports working fully onsite, fully remote, or a mix.

Responsibilities

As a Principal Product Manager, you will be responsible for the following:

  • You will influence others to drive business impact across the organization and track success criteria for multiple feature areas across divisions. You’ll also be an expert in identifying long-term investment opportunities and engaging partners to garner support for those feature areas.
  • You will define a feature set and facilitate senior-level usability reviews with customers. You’ll own the roadmap for multiple feature areas across divisions, and will collaborate with a partner team to build golden configurations and drive scenario walkthroughs.
  • You will scale Product Marketing teams by building marketing and roll-out plans, as well as leading the creation of customer support plans. You’ll also take advantage of major opportunities to promote the feature areas you worked on and present at large events.
  • As an expert, you will partner with others to collect performance metrics and form hypotheses for complex technical needs in order to improve product development in multiple areas. You’ll also identify features to deprecate, manage customer communities, and build trust with targeted customers across sectors.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/project/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years working on software products for commercial enterprise customers
Other RequirementMicrosoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years of experience in product/service/project/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Proficient communication skills
  • A proven track record of successful collaboration with senior leaders and across large organizations
  • 3+ years experience working on Windows or other high volume Microsoft ‘boxed products’ features
    • OR equivalent experience with 3rd party products
  • 2+ years experience working on delivering Cloud services

Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
