The Publications & Evidence Team, a part of the CAS Medical Science Team, is responsible for global evidence dissemination from Medtronic-sponsored clinical trials and registry data. The team supports the development of manuscripts, abstracts, and podium presentations. Medical writers in this role work closely with Principal Investigators and internal team members from the clinical study team, statistics, physician relations, and clinical leadership. The ideal candidate for this position is experienced in writing and editing manuscripts at a medical device company (preferred) or other industry, with knowledge in atrial fibrillation, cardiology, and medical devices. Additionally, relevant medical writing certification (AMWA, CMPP, etc.) and familiarity with pertinent writing guidelines (ICMJE, AMA, GPP, etc.) is strongly desired.

The Principal Medical Writer is responsible for the preparation of documents that support the presentation and publication needs of assigned therapeutic areas and/or products in the Cardiac Ablation Solutions operating unit.

This is a remote position, and candidates can be located anywhere in the United States.

Ability to travel up to 25%.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain a deep understanding of the science behind our products

  • Evaluate and analyze clinical data

  • Author key scientific abstracts, manuscripts, poster presentations, oral presentations, and late-breaking trial presentations and lead from inception to submission in compliance with SOPs and external ICMJE, GPP3, and scientific conference guidelines

  • Create and manage the project schedule for each deliverable through final delivery (e.g. peer-review publication, scientific conference presentation)

  • Interact with external physicians/HCPs to create content.

  • Work with clinical study team(s) on data timelines to create long-term forecasting for data availability and develop publication/evidence strategy

  • Collect input on strategic alignment, drive commitment decisions, communicate progress and decisions to investigators, authors, and stakeholders

  • Attend key scientific congresses and drive execution of business-related publications activities prior to, on-site, and post congresses; including management of speaker preparation and scientific session coverage and report-out.

  • Develop competitive intelligence in our product space

  • Maintain database of internally created publications and develop summaries and overviews of key findings for stakeholders (internal and external)

  • Review and summarize scientific literature and maintain database/output of peer-reviewed literature

  • Builds relationships and demonstrates the clinical outcome and benefits of company products to thought leaders, medical groups, government agencies, key opinion leaders and health systems, consumer-ready medical products by communicating product-related information to investigators and institutions.

  • Provides perspective to field activities associated with growing existing products and bringing new products to market.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements 

  • Bachelors degree required

  • Minimum of 7 years of clinical/medical/scientific writing experience

OR

  • Advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years clinical/medical/scientific writing experience

Nice to Have

  • PhD, MD, or PharmD degree

  • Working knowledge of cardiovascular device therapies

  • Experience writing publications within a medical device company or related industry

  • Excellent writing skills (CMPP, BELS, AMWA, MWC certification a plus)

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Experience conducting literature searches and literature reviews

  • Clinical trial experience

  • Strong team player and the ability to adapt to competing priorities

  • Experience working with physicians/key opinion leaders in an industry or clinical setting

  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$124,800.00 - $187,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

In addition to Base Salary, this position is eligible for a Sales Incentive Plan (SIP), which provides the opportunity to earn significant incentive compensation for achieving or exceeding your goals. Learn more about total rewards here.
