Piping Calculation Group Leader

Bristol, United Kingdom

Job Description

Location: Aztec West, Bristol (hybrid working)

Employment Type: Permanent / Full-Time

Are you ready to help lead a ground-breaking project that will shape the future of UK energy?

We are looking for an experienced Piping Calculation Group Leader, playing a pivotal role in ensuring the success of our nuclear projects.

The Opportunity

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is at the forefront of nuclear power innovation, responsible for designing and delivering the nuclear island for major projects like Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C (SZC).

Leading a team of experts, you’’ll oversee critical calculations that underpin the piping design, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with industry standards.

You’ll foster collaboration between teams in the UK and Paris, developing strong relationships with key stakeholders. With the HPC project entering a crucial phase, you will focus on completing final piping calculations, resolving open points post-handover, and preparing the team for future activities, including SZC.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a competitive starting salary between £70,000-£80,000 (negotiable depending on experience), bonus and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

As the Piping Calculation Group Leader, you’ll have responsibility for:

Driving your team to deliver high-quality calculations on time and within budget, ensuring alignment with project schedules and objectives.

Collaborating with Building Managers and MEH deputies, maintaining adherence to key engineering processes and methodologies.

Overseeing the production and approval of essential calculation notes and technical documentation will be a key part of your role, along with managing configuration control and change processes to ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation.

Developing team competencies and creating a pipeline of expertise to support future nuclear engineering projects will be essential.

Engaging with designers, engineers, and stakeholders to streamline workflows and enhance project efficiency, strengthening relationships with clients and execution teams to facilitate smooth transitions through project phases.

Ensuring that technical lessons learned are shared across teams will be crucial in enhancing knowledge retention and application.

Who you are

You’ll be skilled in piping design with strong knowledge of design processes, engineering rules, and technical requirements. You’ll have experience leading small to medium-sized teams in an engineering environment and delivering complex technical projects while ensuring safety and quality.

Key skills include:

  • Translating specialist knowledge into clear, actionable insights

  • Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder engagement

  • Expertise in project controls, scheduling, and budget management

  • Overseeing subcontractor designs and managing dispersed teams

Experience with EPR reactor design, NPE/NPS requirements, and EDF France teams is advantageous. Fluency in French is a plus but not essential. A proactive approach to change management and process optimisation will set you apart.

Closing date for applications: Thursday 10th April.
