Description

The Peer Review Editor (PRE) is responsible for the peer review performance of an allocated portfolio of journals ensuring quality and timely review of content to an agreed set of key performance indicators. Working in partnership with external JEOs, the portfolio Commissioning Editor and the Production Coordinator, the Peer Review Editor provides expert advice and solutions to Publishing teams on submission, ethics, peer review and workflows to meet journal and company targets.

Please note - this is a Fixed Term Contract for 18 months.  

Location: We perform at our best when we feel trusted and are able to choose an approach to working that suits us best, which is why we are a remote-first company. However, we also believe in face to face collaboration, and our UK colleagues meet once a month for team time and quarterly for company get togethers in our Leeds office, so we ask that you be within a commutable distance that you are comfortable with in order to attend the office on those occasions. 

Day to day we’ll trust you to:   

  • Monitor journal performance and works alongside CEs to propose journal development and actions to improve peer review and ensure adherence to subject level review turnaround times. 
  • Peer review pipeline reporting: monitor actual accepts rate vs budget reports provided in monthly copyflow meetings and work alongside internal teams to ensure sufficient flow of quality content.
  • Make recommendations alongside CEs for product growth based on content pipeline. 
  • Use ScholarOne configuration expertise to set up new journal sites, journal special issues and make changes to workflows and custom questions. 
  • Provide training to new system users and contributes to the upkeep and development of system support resources. 
  • Constantly reviewing all communication templates covering peer review to ensure adherence to changing industry standards and stakeholder expectations. 
  • Lead projects related to peer review experimentation and improvement. 
  • Monitor the JEO teams to ensure TATs and best practice adherence and acts as first point of escalation for copyright, rights and ethics queries.

  • Skills of coaching, negotiating with confidence, training and supporting peer review stakeholders.
  • Adherence to set email and project turnaround times.
  • Advanced organisation skills.
  • Problem solving and decision making ability.
  • Conflict resolution, and specifically the ability to resolve editorial conflicts and disputes.
  • Results oriented and a commitment to self-guided learning in skills for the future.
Social Skills:
  • Social and communication skills with a range of global stakeholders.
  • Analytical and strategic skills with an aptitude for learning new software systems.
  • Relationship development and management.
Knowledge and Technical Skills:
  • Knowledge and ability to work with MS office applications.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to internal systems and processes.
  • Knowledge of ScholarOne submission systems is preferable but not essential.
  • An interest in data analysis is desirable.
Education and Experience:
  • Relevant Publishing or industry knowledge and experience.
  • Experience in customer service roles is preferable.
