  • Pay Type: Exempt / Salary paid Twice Per Month
  • Annual Salary Pay: Target Salary is $62,000-$65,000 based on experience
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday: 8:00am – 5:00pm (hybrid schedule)

The Packaging Engineer II supports packaging compliance, continuous improvement, and packaging development initiatives. This includes working with stakeholders to ensure that packaging maximizes safety, storage, protection, and shipping requirements. The Packaging Engineer II supports cost reduction activities by improving quality, reducing material costs, and improving transportation associated with the packaging changes. The Packaging Engineer II will be responsible for creating cost justification studies to present to the customer. The Packaging Engineer II will have additional customer facing responsibilities. This includes the tracking, validation, and testing of packaging concepts. The Packaging Engineer II will support complex projects with multiple stakeholders and ensure these projects are completed in a timely manner. The Packaging Engineer II will support and develop key metrics, lead meetings, and report out accordingly. The Packaging Engineer II may serve as a lead engineer supporting the development of a junior engineer. This may include evaluating performance, training, developing and mentoring.

Essential Functions

    New model launch support
    Continuous Improvement
    Packaging Maintenance/Repair
    Order quantity/Density improvements

  • The Ryder Packaging Engineer will support packaging compliance by managing the specification improvement process.
    Communication with non-conforming suppliers to provide suggestions to meet compliance.
    Communication with supplier base and customer stakeholders to ensure the timely implementation and approval of packaging specifications.
    Follow up activities to ensure packaging implementation and compliance
  • Leads key meetings for complex packaging and customer facing projects.
  • The Packaging Engineer II may be responsible for direct reports. Responsibilities include evaluating performance, training, developing and mentoring.
  • Train and educate customers (internal and external) on program
  • Benchmark external best practices in support of kaizen activities
  • Creates packaging testing and validation strategies to ensure quality.
  • Responsible for creating SOPs to ensure standard work is documented in PolicyTech


Additional Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Skills and Abilities

  • Able to read and understand the regulations of the customer, AIAG and OSHA standards
  • Mathematics, oral and written communication skills; presentation skills; the ability to sell the vision
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, supervisors)
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Flexibility to operate and self-driven to excel in a fast-paced environment
  • Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized, with excellent time management skills
  • Detail oriented with excellent follow-up practices
  • Prior Lean; Six Sigma or Project management experience is desirable CAD, Access, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, Visio, Power BI advanced required


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required Packaging Engineering
  • Three (3) years or more related field experience required
  • Prior Lean; Six Sigma or Project management experience is desirable CAD, Access, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, Visio, Power BI advanced required

Compensation Information:

The compensation offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s relevant experience; education, including relevant degrees or certifications; work location; market data/ranges; internal equity; internal salary ranges; etc. The position may also be eligible to receive an annual bonus, commission, and/or long-term incentive plan based on the level and/or type. Compensation ranges for the position are below:
