Leidos currently has an opening for an experienced Network Engineer capable of supporting an enterprise level system for a Department of Veterans Affairs program. This position is 100% remote and will involve an occasional rotating schedule for supporting 24x7x365 operations of a mission critical system.
 

The Network Engineer will be capable of working with a high performing sustainment, operations and maintenance team in production, test, and development environments. The candidate will support the technical team lead and will also provide user support for a Government Interagency Healthcare System.  The position requires an individual that can work independently under minimal direction, communicate successfully with the client, ascertain and identify issues adversely affecting the customer experience, and provide troubleshooting and task leadership to a team that includes programmers, system administrators, system engineers, and other network engineers. This position requires the candidate to be able to immediately integrate with the team and start work with minimal oversight.
 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Senior Network Engineer to support the VA Mission.
  • Serve as the liaison for Veterans Affairs / Department of Defense (VA/DoD) Interagency Network data connections for users requesting connections between the different agencies that need access to electronic health information. In this role the employee will collect source Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, destination IP addresses, and port data to establish connectivity between agencies. In this role, the employee may also need to arrange conference calls between representatives of various agencies to ensure a successful connection.
  • Coordinate network implementation changes through business-to-business gateways and extranets.
  • Coordinate network implementation changes through cloud-computing networks.
  • Provide documentation, tracking, and overall schedule of connections and migration milestones for the VA Program Office and provide analysis as required by the VA Program Manager.
  • Form relationships with stakeholders that will help provide the appropriate documentation for the Memorandum of Agreements/Memorandum of Understanding/Information Security Agreement (MOA/MOU/ISAs), and Authority to Operate (ATO) documentation that is required to establish interagency connections.
  • Provide Network architecture and design services to include systems and planning for network monitoring, capacity planning, performance, and availability reporting (includes architecture changes based on input from VA of current architecture, issues, concerns).

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of prior relevant experience. Degree must be in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline. An additional 8+ years of relevant experience may be substituted for education.  Therefore, 13 or more years of relevant experience if no degree in required degree field.
  • Capability to clearly understand, isolate, and troubleshoot inter-agency connectivity and complex networks.
  • Familiar with Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), Network Address Translation (NAT), Network sub-netting, Internet Protocol Security (IPSec), Asynchronous encryption (SSL/TLS), dynamic routing protocols, and Domain Name Systems (DNS).
  • Familiar with Linux Operating Systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to contribute to technical documentation that is thorough and meets federal standards and guidelines.
  • Capability to analyze current infrastructure architecture and provide recommendations for emerging technologies integration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current VA credentials and up-to-date VA Tier 4 / High background investigation.
  • Knowledge of VA and Defense Health Agency (DHA).
  • Knowledge of VA and DoD Policy and guidance regarding Information Assurance (IA) and Information Technology (IT) (i.e. VA 6500 Series Handbook, DoD Instruction (DODI), and National Institutes of Standards and Technology (NIST) guidance.
  • Knowledge of AWS Management and/or Microsoft Azure.
  • Knowledge of Jira and ServiceNow (SNOW).
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Dynatrace and/or SolarWinds.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based computing.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $68,900.00 - $124,550.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
