We have an exciting onsite opportunity for a Manufacturing Applications and Controls Engineer supporting the manufacturing shop floor at our Columbus, Georgia plant location by utilizing the latest state-of-the-art technology in aerospace manufacturing.

What You Will Do:

** Note - The scope of work required for this area of support does not require a full 40 hours of work.

The Controls Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day development, support, and troubleshooting of automated machine tool control systems and manufacturing applications. 

This will include but is not limited to machine tool HMI screens, reporting or visualization tools such as Manufacturing tracking and priority systems, Manufacturing process data consolidation, and Statistical Process Control tools (SPC).

Job tasks will include developing control system approaches and supporting projects related to control systems such as upgrades, process optimizations, and troubleshooting machine tool issues. 

Projects frequently involve working with a team of customers and vendors to integrate new control systems and machine tools into an existing manufacturing network and control system structure.

- Design, development, and programming of PLC based automation and process control systems enabling the integration of manufacturing tools and processes. 

- Assist with the development of data collection methods.  Develop user friendly HMI interfaces for various machine control systems.

- Troubleshoot control systems within the manufacturing processes.

- Gain an understanding of manufacturing processes and goals to identify optimization and improvement opportunities.

- Provide technical support, problem solving, maintenance, modifications, and continuous improvement for automated machine tools and process control systems.

- Participate in the selection of components and control systems for testing, and modernization projects for new systems.

- Maintain knowledge and understanding of emerging hardware and software tools and techniques through continued self-learning.

- Design and create HMI/SCADA interfaces for shop floor machine tools.

- Design and create custom business applications to collect, analyze and report data critical to plant operations.

- Analyze application performance and debug and/or repair as necessary.

- Modify custom applications to accommodate new functionality needed to satisfy compliance or business requirements.

- Design reporting solutions and present a mock-up of the expected reporting output for review and approval.

- Convert legacy software applications to current technologies. (Ex. Visual Basic to VB.net).

Qualifications You Must Have:

- Typically requires an advanced degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience; OR a Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience; OR an Associate's degree with 10 years of project management experience OR in lieu of a degree, 12+ years of prior relevant experience.

- Minimum of two (2) years automation programming experience with PLC and/or SCADA systems and/or manufacturing system programming experience.

- Knowledge of basic manufacturing principles.

- Must work onsite at designated location.

- U.S. Citizenship is required.

Qualifications We Prefer:

- Knowledge programming Rockwell RSLogix/FactoryTalk is a plus.  Knowledge of .Net or similar is a plus.

- Demonstrated experience working and programming HMI interfaces such as FactoryTalk View, iFix, Ignition, or similar.

- Experience working with PID’s, Instrumentation Diagrams or other Distributed Control Systems.

- Experience with the SCADA systems, Inductive Automation - Ignition.

- Exposure to Connected Factory / Factory 4.0 concepts.

- Experience with the Ignition by Inductive Automation software platform.

- Expert level in Microsoft Office Suite, including VBA.

- Experience with a programming language such as .Net, Java, or python.

- Experience in a Manufacturing Operation. 

- Experience with extracting and manipulating data from Oracle and/or SQL Server databases.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and presentation). 

- Ability to work in a Team Environment.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
