The Role
At Last Mile Health (LMH), we make bold commitments that inspire innovation. Do you have experience providing technical support on health financing, including costing and cost-effectiveness analysis? If so, you may be our next Manager, Health Systems Strengthening.
The Manager, Health Systems Strengthening (HSS), will be pivotal in ensuring the quality standards and impact of our work through effective coordination across technical teams. This role involves managing work plans for the HSS department and its various practice teams, including Health Financing, Clinical Excellence, and Education. By driving alignment and efficiency within the department, the Manager will play a key role in fostering collaboration and ensuring that technical resources are leveraged effectively to achieve organizational goals.
In addition, the Manager will streamline HSS technical support across the organization, serving as a vital link between HSS and other key departments. They will co-lead communication and collaboration with teams such as Country Programs, Africa Frontline First, Global Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning, Program Strategy & Performance, and Partnerships & Communications. This cross-departmental coordination will ensure that HSS efforts are integrated and impactful, supporting the organization's mission to strengthen health systems globally.
This role is open to candidates either based in Accra, Ghana or the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. This position is only open to candidates who do not require any paid sponsored or unsponsored work authorization in Ghana or the US. This role is fully remote in the US and hybrid in Ghana.
Technical Support
- Support HSS Practice Areas during high-demand periods by delivering evidence reviews, analytical reports, policy briefs, and presentations to meet organizational needs effectively
- Provide health financing and economics expertise, including costing and cost-effectiveness analysis, to ensure alignment with HSS strategies across teams and settings.
- Support the multi-country and multi-disciplinary project BIRCH (Building Integrated Readiness for Community Health) from the HSS side
- Provide coordination and project management support to prepare for and follow up on meeting action plans, workplans and department commitments from HSS teams
- Liaise closely with the global monitoring, evaluation and learning team, to ensure effective integration and collaboration across technical areas
- Co-lead project management for assigned project-specific work as needed
- Support proposal development efforts within the HSS team
Internal Operations
- Help to foster a culture of equity, inclusion, learning, and results orientation within HSS, ensuring alignment with organizational values and priorities
- Liaise with practice teams within HSS to create and update effective action plans, and work plans and proactively track progress on quarterly/annual goals
- Support the HSS team in knowledge management. Work with the HSS team to update HSS-related documents on Slite
- Coordinate HSS input into annual planning
- Process and synchronise HSS requests from various persons in the organisation
- Plan and organise meetings as needed for and with HSS team members including agenda development, action item communication, tracking action item completion
- Manage the HSS response time for organisation requests within set parameters
- Development or co-creation of tools to improve organization and tracking of progress against Key Results.
- Support communication around key achievements of the HSS team
External Coordination
- Facilitate robust sharing and dissemination of learnings within and outside the organization via brown bags or learning sessions
- Directly contribute or support the integration of appropriate HSS members towards meeting prep for funders and proposal development as needed
- Provide coordination and project management support to prepare for and follow up on relevant opportunities outside of the organization
What You'll Bring
- Strong analytical skills (quantitative and/or qualitative research experience)
- Progressive years of hands-on and technical experience in public health, and health financing experience will be an asset.
- Demonstrated growth in responsibilities over time, including progressively increased management experience and leadership roles.
- Ability to work with multicultural teams
- Familiarity with core components of Health System Strengthening
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Fluency in English and have excellent verbal, and written communication skills

- You have strong knowledge of Excel and previous experience with data analysis. Familiarity with Stata, R, Python

Compensation for this position:
The Band for this position: GHA- 3
For Ghana, the range is $22,260 USD -$42,046 USD dependent upon experience doing an equivalent role. Please note that this compensation is subject to statutory taxes.
For the United States, the range is $63,298 USD - $79,633 USD dependent upon experience doing an equivalent role. Please note that this compensation is subject to statutory taxes.
