The Technology and Innovation (T&I) Ministry supports Government of Alberta (GoA) departments with information management and technology (IMT) leadership and expertise in IMT services delivery, security, and corporate investment management that enable the GoA to meet business goals and objectives.

The Cybersecurity Division is tasked with the protection of the GoA’s information assets from a confidentiality, integrity and availability perspective. They are responsible to identify, assess, monitor, detect, investigate, research, and respond to threats and incidents impacting the security of information assets.

Role Responsibilities

In this position, you will support the GoA's cybersecurity strategy, reinforces the Information Security Management Directives (ISMD) and ensure that risk and security are built into all IT operations. You will be responsible for participating in and/or coordinating the development and implementation of cybersecurity controls, policy instruments and measuring compliance. 

Reporting to the Director, Cybersecurity Governance Risk and Compliance, you will be responsible for processes, technology, roles and tools used to assess cybersecurity processes, roles, and controls used to secure technology and information assets for the GoA.  

Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Mentoring and coaching staff 
  • Leading or coordinating projects or set of activities 
  • Assisting in delivery of the Cybersecurity Program for the GoA 
  • Providing cybersecurity advice to stakeholders 
  • Participating in projects as a cybersecurity subject matter expert 
  • Participating in the identification of cybersecurity requirements, as well as the development of strategies and solutions to meet these requirements 
  • Presenting cybersecurity controls, frameworks and policy instruments to leadership.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build productive relationships within the Ministry, GoA and with partnering ministries, agencies, and key stakeholders. 
  • Ability to lead and manage a variety of projects and processes and deliver high quality results within time-lines.
  • The ability to lead and manage staff/resources to meet time commitments and changing priorities.
  • The ability to analyze competing complex issues and synthesize findings to recommend and identify actions and resolutions. 
  • Strong negotiating, mediation, facilitation and consultation skills to manage competing perspectives from diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong influencing, coaching and conflict resolution skills.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A related university degree (e.g., Computer Science), supplemented by at least four (4) years of related experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate information, findings and information to a variety of audiences in a variety of formats and venues
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and risk management practices
  • Experience working in a large enterprise within a compliance, risk management, and cybersecurity environment


Assets:

  • Cybersecurity certification (e.g., CISSP, CRISC, CISM, CCSP)
  • Knowledge and understanding of the risk management framework


Equivalencies are:
A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; or a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience.

Notes

This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).

Pre-Employment Checks will be completed to assess the candidate’s suitability for a role. These checks may include (but are not limited to): references, an enhanced criminal record check, academic verification, etc.

While this position is eligible for remote work, the successful candidate must reside in Alberta to work remotely. Monthly visits to the Edmonton office will be required.

Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.
