What this role is all about:

Beem Credit Union is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Manager, Commercial Credit (Temporary 6 months) to lead and direct commercial credit operations, adjudications and assisting in its ongoing development. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Credit, the Manager Commercial Credit contributes to the provision of service excellence to the Credit Union’s members . The incumbent collaborates with departments and commercial team to provide support and direction to ensure efficient and effective commercial credit operations in an ongoing effort to providing an overall positive member experience.

What you’ll do:

Core Outcomes:

Credit Application Review

  • Reviews, analyzes and approves commercial credit applications within delegated lending limits and makes recommendations for approval to the appropriate parties as required.
  • Provides advice and guidance on large, complex loans or other commercial credit issues, and provides technical direction as required.
  • Ensures annual reviews are completed in accordance with Policy and follows-up with the Commercial team as needed.
  • Negotiates commercial loans with the BRMS and CAMs to ensure they provide a balance of risk and return.
  • Monitors commercial out-of-orders, watch list, delinquency, and maturities to ensure the proper administration of the portfolio.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the economy, the market and the Credit Union’s competition with particular attention to the commercial and retail real estate markets.

Internal Reviews, Auditing & Risk Management

  • Monitors processing and loan underwriting methods to ensure quality, delinquency control, overdrafts, policy and documentation requirements and requirements set out by regulators & auditors are satisfied.
  • Coordinates the dissemination of loan policies and procedures; ensures employees follow loan underwriting policies and any policy deviations are corrected.
  • Oversees monthly audits and conducts random reviews of commercial credit files.
  • Oversees, coordinates preparation of and verifies a variety of regular and ad-hoc reports.
  • Conducts regular reviews of lending limits, audit controls, lending caps and other risk management areas to ensure compliance.
  • Regularly updates the approved legal firm, appraisers, QS and Syndication lists.
  • Oversees setup of employee access to relevant lending software and systems.

Process Review & Improvement

  • Assesses credit practices to ensure appropriate response to evolving needs. Recommends commercial credit policy and procedure improvements to support higher productivity and efficiency.
  • Manages the credit process to meet quality and target turnaround timelines.
  • Assists with resolving internal audit and BCFSA audit findings.

 Relationship Management & Collaboration

  • Maintains positive and mutually beneficial relationships with product and service vendors.
  • Fosters positive relationships with internal partners to ensure smoothly implemented practices.
  • Attends community events, educational seminars and builds a positive profile in the financial community.
  • Builds positive internal and external stakeholder relationships to further Credit’s internal reputation and the Credit Union’s reputation in the community.
  • Collaborates with Commercial Team and other departments on credit-related projects such as lending campaigns.
  • Partners with the Learning and Development team in development and delivery of commercial credit training programs.

 

A little about your qualifications:

  • Post-secondary business degree or diploma
  • Minimum 7-9 years’ progressive experience in commercial credit
  • At least 5 years’ experience in underwriting or commercial account management
  • Experience with a wide variety of commercial lending, including construction, development, industrial, income and balance sheet lending.
  • Equivalent combination of the above may be appropriate
