The Technology and Innovation Ministry supports GoA departments with information management and technology (IMT) leadership and expertise in IMT services delivery, security, and corporate investment management that enable the GoA to meet business goals and objectives.

The Data and Content Management division uses a one-government approach to information and privacy governance, decision-making, and service delivery across the GoA balanced with individual client needs. This facilitates enhanced data access, collaboration, decreased data duplication, and increased innovation to ensure effective and efficient services across the government to provide better services to Albertans.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to Senior Manager, Data Centre of Excellence, you will be responsible for leading a team that is responsible for the development and delivery of analytical products and related services to clients and partners, both internal and external to the GoA. Delivery of these data products and services will support the vision and execution of the GoA Data Strategy. You will also play a key role in the establishment and operationalization of an enterprise wide  Data Community of Practice. You will work strategically with other individuals within Technology and Innovation and across the organization to support the efficient and strategic management and analytical use of the organization's data assets. You will focus on agility, business outcomes, innovation and transformation, and ensure that data is treated as a corporate asset. Your efforts will improve access to and inform the use of GoA data assets both within and outside of government in support of policy analysis, program planning, and decision-making. 

Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Leading the establishment and operations of a Data Community of Practice.
  • Providing leadership in identification, evaluation, and delivery of opportunities to address and enhance delivery of data and analytical products and related services.
  • Participating on committees comprising of managers and other knowledge experts to provide advice and prepare recommendations that advance the value of GoA data and information assets.
  • Leading the Analytical Capability Centre’s vision for being an accelerator for data innovation.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A related university degree (e.g., Science, Business, Engineering), supplemented by at least four (4) years of related experience. Equivalencies may be considered.

  • Extensive experience with data science and data analysis.


Assets:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading or managing a team of professionals.
  • Knowledge of technologies such as Azure, Snowflake, and Databricks.


Equivalencies are:
A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; or a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience.

Notes

This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).

Testing will be administered as part of our assessment process.

While this position is eligible for remote work, the successful candidate must reside in Alberta to work remotely. The occasional in-person meeting in Edmonton may be required.

Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.
