The Opportunity
We are looking for an excited, motivated and collaborative Commercial Counsel to join our small legal team. You’ll draft and negotiate commercial partnerships, vendor, and sales agreements. You’ll help to maintain and update existing templates and contracting processes for our global products. You’ll make an immediate impact through sound business judgment and ability to translate business concepts to clear, legal drafting to protect the business and achieve business goals. This role is ideally suited for an individual who is eager to learn, has an ownership mentality, and thrives in a team-focused, fast-paced environment. With exposure in a high-growth technology startup this is a unique opportunity for someone to build a strong executive skillset.
This role can be performed from anywhere in the United States. Note: we’re a global team with over half our colleagues in Europe, which will necessitate some early mornings if located in the western United States time zones.
What you will do:
Draft and negotiate complex commercial contracts (sales and services agreements, and ancillary documents) with enterprise and mid-market customers
Support business teams (sales in particular) by identifying and mitigating potential legal risks
Lead customer-facing legal negotiations in partnership with the Sales team
Develop and contribute to templates, forms, and playbooks to improve collaboration, and support enablement of the Sales team
Take on additional product matters as needed, including supply and channel partnerships, feature licensing, and inbound license agreements
Who you are:
At least 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney, though more is welcome
Must possess a J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school and be an active member in good standing of the Bar
Strong understanding of contract negotiation, risk management, and compliance across the USA and EMEA.
Understanding of GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other relevant privacy laws applicable to SaaS strongly preferred
Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a global company
Excellent communication skills. You should be comfortable, confident, friendly, and capable of explaining complicated issues at the right level of detail for the audience
Commitment to client service, with high emotional intelligence and the ability to perform well under pressure
The salary range provided for this position is an estimated guideline from a salary database. Total compensation for this position may also include equity, variable pay, and employee benefits. We consider a wide range of factors when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to relevant experience, knowledge, training, and skill sets; market conditions; and internal equity. Compensation ranges may also vary based on location.
