£55,000+ (dependent on experience)

 

Here at Serco, we are seeking a talented Litigation Counsel to be a legal business partner to the UK & Europe (UK&E) Division in delivering proactive and quality legal services on contentious matters, to protect the interests of the UK&E Division and enable sustainable profitability.

 

In this key role you will provide and enable value-add legal support on disputes and contentious matters in alignment with the sustainable achievement of the UK&E Division’s strategic priorities, managing a diverse caseload of claims and matters across the UK&E Division.

 

This role is ideal for a candidate with 1-2 years of post-qualification experience, who is ready to provide exceptional legal support and become a key player in managing our litigation and contentious matters.


As part of this you’ll:

  • Collaborate with the Senior Litigation Counsel and UK&E Legal team to deliver proactive and high-quality legal services.
  • Manage a diverse caseload of claims and matters.
  • Preferable areas of experience include, commercial contracts and disputes, tortious claims, Prison law, Humans Rights Act 1998, public law and judicial review, Equality Act 2010, and Data Protection legislation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, providing business-focused legal advice on contentious matters, including analysis of complex liability issues, developing litigation strategies, and negotiating settlements where appropriate.
  • Prepare legal documentation related to disputes.
  • Represent Serco on formal and informal settings before third parties to achieve successful and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Manage relationships with external legal service providers.
  • Generate management information and reporting on material legal matters and projects.
  • Collaborate with the risk team to proactively identify developments in relevant laws, regulations, government policies and legal procedures.

 

What you’ll need to do the role:

  • You will need to be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a current practising certificate.
  • 1-2 years of post-qualification experience in managing litigation and contentious matters (although lesser post-qualification experience will be considered on demonstration of relevant pre-qualification experience).
  • Demonstrable success in handling complex disputes and legal matters.
  • Deep understanding of complex legal issues and contractual constructs.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to balance legal requirements with commercial, technical and stakeholder expectations.
