Linux Engineer I

Overview
The Linux Engineer I will be part of a Linux OS team in the 24x7 operational support of TierPoint managed services customers. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge in Linux operating systems. The candidate must also have outstanding customer service skills, and the ability to translate technical issues into common language. The Linux Engineer reports to the Manager OS Managed Services.
Responsibilities
- Provides quality internal and external customer service surrounding the Company values.
- Manage the flow of incoming customer requests to maintain Customer Request Fulfillment process expectations
- Communicate expectations, assignments and responsibilities clearly and professionally.
- Participate in an on-call escalation support rotation to ensure 24x7x365 coverage for critical infrastructure and customer systems.
- Plan, install, and provide daily operational support for managed customer Linux environments
- Ensure timely resolution of high severity incidents, including communications, reporting, and tracking of follow-ups.
- Follows technical documentation for customer environments, processes, standards, and support procedures.
- Collaborate closely with other operations teams and architecture to efficiently resolve service incidents; ensuring service availability levels are met.
- Desire to improve upon existing systems and automate processes, including writing and maintaining documentation
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Technical training in Information technology, engineering, computer science or equivalent experience.
- Excellent customer facing communication skills (both written and verbal)
- 1 year of experience of managing enterprise Linux environments
- Ability to trouble shoot and resolve basic issues associated with the operating systems
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8 or higher
- Experience with Ubuntu 20.04LTS or higher
- Experience using yum and Linux OS patching
- Experience working with VMware technologies
- Proficient in one or more Linux / UNIX specific scripting languages
- Exposure to cloud providers like Azure and AWS
- Basic understanding of OS side networking and networking concepts in general
- Adequate professional experience and knowledge to perform Job Responsibilities

- Ability to communicate in non-technical terms to non-technical people
- Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work both independently and with others
- Ability to operate in a fast moving, team-oriented, collaborative environment with tight deadlines
- Proficiency in using MS Office Suite and Windows-based computer applications
Preferred Experience
- Previous managed service provider experience
- Experience in complex multi data center environments with 24x7, mission critical operations

It’s important to note the pay range may be narrower than displayed, as various factors are used to determine the offered compensation package including skill set, level of experience, geographic locations, and other relevant factors- i.e. budgetary requirements.Pay Range $60,000.00- $97,778.29
